I have a feeling Misher may be a Canadian
To him any country that mauls medals in a sport must be instituting Chinese/eastern bloc model of athlete farming. Australia certainly does not hand pick kids and feed them swimming all day, and Korea certainly does not hand pick kids for speed skating. I have no idea why Korea became so great at speed skating, but is getting better and better because kids start at early ages and there are world class coaches and facilities. |
I knew someone was going to say this. I'm actually a dual citizen if it matters and your comments make it obvious that you know nothing about the current model in place in SK for speed skating. I also knew an aussie would get up in arms about my comments but they hold true. 2 of my very good friends were in speed skating programs in SK that gave me the lowdown on how things are run. Australia's swimming model is an athlete factory model. SOrry, but it is. I don't care if the system in place is out of virtue or it is good "for the kids." It all comes down to national pride and boasting in the end (We're a country of X million and we're 3rd in medals! blah blah blah) If Canada spent money on sports like this I'd be pissed. I already spend enough money on taxes. THe last thing I want is my money going to some guy who can do crazy carpet or splash around in a pool for a living. It serves no purpose and does not improve my life.
I also couldn't give a toss about medals and the olympics. For some reason I think the olympics brings the worst out in countries as it is never about the athletes anymore and just corruption, scandal and what country is better than the other. I was a staunch activist AGAINST the olympics in Vancouver as they are going to do NOTHING for the city but attracting more rich people to make the city harder to live in. Vancouver has enough problems as it is. |

I want to see ice fishing as a winter olympic sport. Beer consumption style would be one of thing you could judge. |

korea fighting!!! |
I wonder how it wold have changed if they guy had gone outside instead of inside like he was supposed to. Anyone know how much longer the outside lap is compared to the inside lap? He originally won by 3 seconds or something didn't he? would it have been long enough to change the outcome or make it close? |

Awesome performance by the Queen today... Just watching it there!!
The embodiment of all that's great about the Olympic Games..
Elegance, Spirit, Determination, Commitment, Grace,
Unbelievable athletic prowess...
Korea Fighting!!!!!!!
A word out to the Canadian skater Joannie Rochette though in the same category who is in third position just a couple of days after losing her mother (who had traveled to the games) suddenly..
Athletes like the above two keep the spirit of the Games going.. |

Is anyone following this to the point where they can say whether Germany can conceivably catch the US on medal count? |

They're only 3 back..how are german skiers?
there seem to be a lot of various skiing events coming up.
So I'd guess it would be all down to american vs german skiers.
cross country wise it seems like the US hasn't won a medal in a little while while germany has a few.
nordic the us has already won more than they have in a while
same with aerials
If you want to get an idea, just click historical medals and see how the various countries usually do. Could be a toss up depending on a few events. |

LOL! Awesome and very true!!! You win 100 free Internets!!!
I was boarding in muju one year (long ago) and the place had bodies sprawled all over like the beach scene in "Saving Private Ryan". Total chaos!!! |

Canada is up 6-2. Russia's switched goalies, not looking good for them. |

I just watched the women's short track relay and thought Korea had won. Went to the Olympic site and found out they had been DQed. Anyone know why exactly? Wonder if there will be outrage about this one or if it was a clear violation this time. |

Apparently they illegally blocked China with 4 laps to go. I'm trying to look for a video of it |
