Somewhere warm, with a good beach, very little crime. Definitley no snow or ice.... Nice people, laid back attitude in other words a South Pacific kind of place. Seen the population is smaller than the North American cities that seem to be popular I'd say Tahiti.

Really you people have to get out and travel more...

Vancover, Toronto, New York.... damn theres no real travellers on this site are there Very Happy

How would you peeps rate the city you live in / cities you have lived in in Korea?

Obviously I can only judge from a male esl teacher's perspective, which I;d say would be 'how livable is the city for a young(ish) grad with a decent one person apt, and a decent disposable income and no familly / little responsibility.'

I'd have to say Seoul is pretty good. Not enough parks, but plenty to do in way of entertainments, shopping, day trips, eating and drinking, good transport etc.

Ilsan / goyang city in general I'd say would be a nice place to bring up a young family.

Seoul is fun. The subway is incredible. Taxi's everywhere (and affordable).

the 'rub' is can you make a living in such places?

which is why I said if I had a stable USD based income, there are many many cities in the developing world I'd pick over any US city any day of the week and Sunday.

it's a concept I'm working on... (getting a USD income without geographical limitations). Waiting till retirement, like most such people have to is way too late in life to enjoy this.

for e.g. Rio De Janeiro would smoke any US city if you had any income you could rely on.

my poker game blows. I don't even know how to play poker.

my trading derivatives game though has gotten considerably better.

the only expats I know that really make a living overseas are few in numbers. Most have set up succesful businesses (all catering to foreigners of course), and I know several with Internet based employment which they can do anywhere. Those are the very lucky few.

Corporate expat packages of famed decades goneby are now extraordinarily difficult to come by, though people in the oil business like oil engineers, etc still do extraordinarily well.

perfect example.

I've heard this from every American male that's been there.

why are the Quebecois females so much hotter (and leaner) than their English speaking Canadian cousins?

is it the same thing that makes 99% of French females hotter than say their English counterpart?

Maybe because they do have different facial features. For this reason, they look exotic. But, I've noticed that many of them have small eyes and big noses so they're not so attractive at second glance.

They're thinner because
1) they probably eat better food. The French have a real food culture.
2) they tend to be smaller boned. Lots of petite women. Good things come in small packages rings true here.

But looks aside, when the morning comes, you have to decide if you want to say "au revoir!" or make her your girlfriend. If you keep her, you'd better damn like her culture and get used to moody people who talk loud. People who get angry with you, shout at you and hug you an hour later. Well, I guess if you're in Korea, it's same - same, but oriental.

I don't understand the obsession some Canadians/Americans have with Montreal. I spent some time there and I will admit, it is one BEAUTIFUL looking city. It's clean, the buildings are well kept and historical, the people are all extremely metropolitan (French?) if that's your thing.

However, like Korea, I think Montreal is best enjoyed by people who are born in Montreal. As an anglophone I sensed quite a bit of unfriendliness and felt like a foreigner as I'm from the part of Canada that doesn't speak French. Montreal does feel like a different country in comparison with Toronto or other Canadian cities.

I lived in Moncton for a few years and got my fair share of the same attitude there. I studied French so I would have more social opportunities only to be shot down by the locals whom will only speak English and French (or "Shiac") to other Francophones and neither to those who aren't.

Montreal has a lot of poverty and the local gov is corrupt as all hell.

25% live below the poverty line.

Because of payoffs to the mafia, it costs 30% more to build a stretch of highway in Quebec than it does in Ontario. And they do a shoddy job. One woman told me that the quality of the roads reminded her of Lebanon.

Yup I agree, the idea of a small place having accomadation, meals etc appeals and is doable

I met a sweet as American on Boracay Island in the Philippines last year he was doing just that, he'd recouped of his initial expenditure in two years and has a 80% occupancy even in the down times. He actually spends most of his time travelling. Ah the life... Plus the money he's making is very tidy even when converted to US dollars
