My recruiter says that since I don't have an E2 visa history, I can't do a visa run to Japan. Do I have to fly all the way home??  |

There are a few exceptions but by-and-large.... if you want a spanky-new E2 you need to fly home for a consular interview. |

| or i'm told you can get one in Guam as a first-time E2 applicant, without having to fly all the way back to Hawai'i or the mainland. |

| The rule about having an interview for your first E2 visa isn't being universally enforced. If you're already here and have the visa issuance number, have your school call the Korean consulates and embassy in Japan. If one says you can't do it, ask at the others (Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka). Some people HAVE gotten first time E2 visas in Japan (at least in the last couple months for sure). |

So, how did the story end? Did you end up going back home for the visa, or were you able to get it in Japan? |
