|
|
ESL foreign teachers have recently created a labor union in South Korea.
Awesome! This is great news.
This is the second such union in the country. I hope to see more created.
ESL foreign teachers in Korea are too vulnerable to exploitation which too often happens. We need to be empowered.
The success of this lastest teacher union is an inspiration to us all.

A total of 22,905 foreign nationals are here on E-2 English teaching visas as of Oct. 31 this year, according to the Ministry of Justice. Of them, 134 overstayed their visa, the ministry said. |
That's unbelievably low. These days, virtually one thirds of all people I encounter in South Korea seem to work as English teachers whether at school or at hakwon. Some are reasonably good with over 950 TEPS and nearly perfect GRE scores and able to teach grammar/writing just as well as any UK/US English professor at HUFS, Seoul. Most of the rest... earn under US$2,000 / month though. |

Does everything on this forum always have to do with something? So far, quite many posts seem to discuss... just drinking and sex usually. What's wrong about GRE scores? |

Yes. If you want to read random postings about anything at all, I believe that Google has a button for getting a random web page.

Many of us just wish the hagwons would be forced to honor contracts and pay taxes/pension/health insurance. It's Korean LAW but they are allowed to ignore the law. |

Has it worked? Has it made any difference? Don't think so. |

I thought unions were illegal here. Guess I was wrong. |
