Seriously, you hear Brits complain about job adds in Korea that say they want Americans or Canadians. But, God I wish I were British. I sure and the heck would NOT be in Korea. As I posted before, a few great jobs in France said I would be their first choice If I were a British Cit.
Well, I just read a great job add for Holland. Then at the end. British only 
MAN. If I were only British. France, or Spain, or Italy, or Greece, or Portugal, or Germany, or Holland or or or or 
But no. I am American. So basically it is Korea or Korea, but then..... there is also Korea.  |

Well it's not too bad for me, I do it by choice. part of being a monk is to take a vow of poverty. So, as a monk and a working man, I live as frugally as possible, and donate as much as I can to charity.
Besides, what is money, but pieces of paper with pictures of dead people on them. |

I'm with buddy bradley on this one. Try being a South African. Your own country doesn't want you and all the job adds around here ask for Americans, Canadians or Brits.
buddy, ever told Korean kids where you're from? "Aprika?..." Howls of laughter.

Since when is Korea the only country in the world where Americans can get teaching jobs? I've always found it strange how so many teachers here seem to think that way. It might be difficult to get a job in the E.U., but not impossible, and then there's the rest of the world, like the Middle East, non-E.U. eastern Europe, North Africa, Latin America, Asia ... There's a big world out there chickenman. |

Taiwan also - they put ads out looking only for Canadian/American teachers. Never see any Brits or Australians here.
Japanese learners really like British teachers, though.
Lots of British EFL'ers in Tokyo. |

Oh, and if you have unfortunately been bored and or crazy enough to follow my posts  Well, then you might remember that I grew up on a dirt farm in the Appalation part of Ohio, where we had k-12 in the same small building (no not an abandoned school bus) we were one step above that. That was still a bit south of me. Anyway we only had about 6 teachers for k-12.
Also, as I mentioned before (no you are not required to read my posts, nor remember their contents ) at that time, and still today I think, child labor laws did not apply outside of city limits.
So, I was able to make money doing farm work starting as a little kid. By the time I was a Senior in HS I had saved enough that that money plus working full time I was able to pay my way thru my BA.
Then PTL I had teaching positions that covered the costs of my MA and PhD.
So, I am very used to the standard of living I have in Korea. Actually, in many ways it is better than what I was used too. 
I just get upset that I worked so hard to become a near native speaker of 3 European languages, and can't teach there.
And my poor little chicken brain just can't learn any more, so I know almost no Korean after 5 years. |

The pay is appaling in Europe, and we are treated like second class citizens. There are a few good jobs here and there but given the nature of TEFL, people pretty much keep them until they retire. |

| Actually Butterfly there is some serious money to be made working for the Home Office in England...teaching all the welcome new immigrants we have to our shores to speak English...I reckon you should check it out... |
