|
|
Hello,
I am US citizen and need to get a new background check ASAP! My problem is I am in Thailand and I don't plan on going back to the US any time soon.
I see the FBI website says it can take 13 WEEKS! I am from California and know they can be really slow too.
Has anyone gotten a background check while overseas? How long did it take for them to send you your info? Did you send it express with an express return envelope?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

I checked online how to do their process of getting a background check and I'd have to mail it to P.O. Box in Sac., knowing the State Gov.- they take forever!- But since I haven't done it via mail, I wanted to know what others have done, and which way was faster.
I need it ASAP! |

That would be great, but I am NOT in the States and won't be returning there. |

Thanks people, but can anyone answer my questions???

Have you gotten a background check from the FBI when you weren't in the states? How long did it actually take?
If they used Cal. State Dept. services how long did it take? |

The state check is what I used. It failed twice though. They didn't notorise it despite the fact that my mom had written in bold and highlighted "PLEASE NOTARISE!"
I'd say, if you're crunched for time, try both? and which ever you get back first, you send it.
It took about 2 months, but that's becuase the lovely state of IL can't read the instructions and don't know what a notary is. |

Can't you get the report not notarized and then take it to your embassy and sign an affidavit instead? |

I've also been living overseas for several years and am in a similar situation. Which state should I ask for the background check in? The last place I lived? Or where my family lives? Or can I just choose the state that has the cheapest fee? |

I'm from Washington State, and I was able to get my background check done in a day thanks to great adice from the background check people at the WSP office. I did an online background check with the Washington State Patrol. I printed the check, took it to the WSP office, where they wrote a verification letter and notarized both the check and the letter. I then took the whole thing to the Secretary of State's office and had it apostilated. It took an afternoon.
You need to call the relevant office, tell them what you want done, and ask their advice. People can be quite helpful. |

What would have happened if you didn't live near those places? |

I am in the same situation. I have to have a CBC asap. I was hoping to get a Private Investigator to run a background check on me and get that notarized, apostilled (sp?) and all that.
Anyone know if that'll work for Korean immi.?
Thanks |
