|

I planned on going yesterday when they opened. Walked by the store around 12:30 and the line to get in looked like it would take about 3 hours.....so I passed.
Did anyone get in? What's the scoop? How were the sizes and prices? I'm hoping for normal H&M prices and Western sizes.
*fingers crossed* |

My wife and I held off until 9:30pm and walked in without waiting.
No need to worry as they have a vast range of sizes (EUR) and there was a decent selection available.
With regards to pricing, it's not as cheap as other places but that was certainly to be expected. |

I was hoping H&M would have the same low prices they have in America.
The clothes can be fashionable...but definitely not worth good money...its disposable fashion at best... |

It's in Myeong Dong.
I'm glad I stocked up on H&M stuff in Toronto before returning back to Seoul. It seems to be incredibly packed (will probably be that way for a month or so) and much more expensive than in North America based on what my friend who went said.
Hopefully they'll open a store in Gangnam soon so I can have a real alternative to UniQlo. |

Article about the opening:

It mentions the popularity of "fast fashion" stores here. Personally, I think it's a shame because it seems to be getting harder to find decent quality but affordable casual clothes here. Anything that is not designed to fall apart after one season (e.g., Banana Republic, RL Polo, even the Gap) is 2-3x the cost here vs. back home. A couple years ago I bought a lined windbreaker jacket at Uniqlo for about 60K won that's still going strong. Now they are selling an incredibly cheap and thin feeling anorak for the same price.
The CEOs of Zara, H&M, Uniqlo etc. are on the Forbes' richest billionaires list for a reason, and it's because they found a way to sell cheap crap at high prices. |

You say this yet you mention stores like Banana, RL and GAP. Those places are completely void of any fashion sense and just sell the same basic crap for very high prices. At least H&M, Zara etc offer clothes that have some personality. I could care less if it won't last a few years, I'll have replaced most of my stuff long by then anyway... although lots of my H&M clothes are still going strong after several years. I welcome H&M and despise the big labels that think it's ok to just affix their logo to utterly boring clothes and charge an obscene amount. |

Actually, the prices aren't that much higher (Polo excluded), and when they are it's often warranted for clothes people don't change often like coats and suits. The point is that these fast fashion joints could make the same styles at higher quality but don't because they know the kids will still buy them, so why not pad the bottom line as much as you can? When I was in Japan a couple years ago, the quality on the clothes at Uniqlo was actually very good. Compared to then, the prices on their clothes have stayed the same but the quality has gone way down, to where they're almost as bad as Zara. |

Actually, Polo here isn't extortionately expensive either. It SEEMS expensive, but when you do an exchange conversion, the mark up is often just 10% or so, which I gladly pay and consider it shipping fee. |

I bought some white crew sox at H and M once. They looked gay and were streched out in the laundry after a week.. |
