I was talking to the people at KAIST about working there this year.

They were interested in me but they said I would have to fly from Korea to Boston to do an interview because they are doing all their recruitment at the annual TESOL convention in Boston.

This is despite the fact that I am currently working at a University less than 90 mins drive from Daejeon. Seems like a strange approach. I am not going to Boston. I don't want to work there that much.

Do they make you pay your own pay to Boston?

If so, screw them. I wouldn't go either.

I'm sure they'll have no trouble finding someone; it'll be someone who's not in Korea that wants to be. What's the problem?

If it's true, I wouldn't be broken up about not working for an institution so blind to turn down someone 90 minutes away, insisting that you fly across the world at your own expense to meet their bureaucratic convenience. Why would a department limit their prospective faculty in this way? It is foolishness and arrogance.
