Concerning those who work for universities and have two year contracts, its appears now that immigration is giving teachers 2 years on an E2 visa.

E1s for university staff/ lecturers/professors (who are qualified) have always been 2 years.

E2s are still one year - renewable/extendable.

If you have personal experience with something different I would love to hear about it.

Two (E2 visa holders) instructors from my university went to Incheon immigration just this last week and both received 2 year stamps on their residence cards. However, both of these instructors have been in Korea more then 10 years and this may possibly have something to do with it I think.

Nope, a friend of mine just signed a 2-year contract with his uni and immigration gave him a 2-year E2 visa. He's only been in the country 2 1/2 years.

Well none the less, it looks like what I said is true. The only downside I see to this is you are locked into 2 years. If by chance you get a contract with a bad university you cant get out of it after a year. If its a great job then you are laughing!
