Hi all,

EPIK come (here by) date's coming up (woo?) and I was wondering-

Are travel immunizations available once I've landed and settled in Korea (w/ the health insurance) or is it a better idea to pay the exorbitant US prices for the little things like not dying?

The sub-question here prolly'd be - is this a good idea?

Thanks!

All you really need are the basics (that you should have had as a child).

The exception that you may not have had are: Hep A/B.

Even without insurance they are not expensive here (40k or less per shot) and you only need 2 or 3 shots (depending on serum type).

IF you have not had any immunizations as a child then you may want to start them now because the series for some can take months or years to complete (shot and boosters).

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I think I should be fine then; I've had childhood immunizations and a Hep B shot last years, as well as the first step of the Hep A shot last year. So Hep A, which probably can wait for a month or something.

My guess is that CDC's assessment of epidemiology on things like Japanese Encephalitis is good then? Good to know!

I don't know about where your at, but the cost/shot around here hovers around a hundred bucks. Ouch.

Get your tuberculosis immunization. The US doesn't vaccinate against it (they only test to see if you've been exposed) but it's a pretty prevalent in Korea.

Vacs are cheap in Korea. Got my yellow fever vac for 26k won a month ago.

Would have been 140 USD in my city in the U.S. Ouch.
