| Everyone here is naming people from recent times, or comics that they have seen or heard. How about dudes like Chaplin, Keaton, Harold Lloyd etc? It might not seem funny now, but audiences used to wet themselves watching the Keystone Cops. |

| I was goading a bit and it was tongue in cheek but I guess a lot of Brits , myself included, get turned off the relentless US gag based sit coms written by teams of writers who try and cram as many one liners into the 20 minutes (in between all those adverts) as they can. I find the majority of all those good looking people with perfect hair and teeth (e.g. Friends) are often not intrinsically funny the way Ricky Gervaise, in my opinion is, although I know a lot of people can't stand him. The UK office was supposed to be a fake docu soap so people standing around awkwardly giggling at an inflatable beep was kind of the point as that's what happens in real life. The US version was to me just like a normal US sit com. I've never seen Spaced |

Hey, me too! It pains me that the top shows in the States right now comprise of The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and other total s***.

Understood.
You're a good guy edward and I totally know what you're saying. But despite all it's faults, I have to stand by my country's television programming. You want ugly? Watch Eastbound & Down. Brilliant sitcom? Arrested Development. Skits? The Chappelle's Show. Space cowboy-Asian fusion? Firefly. Unfortunately, the utter tripe that gets exported to the rest of the world is out of my control. I can only recommend that you check out some of our neglected, quality programming. Unfortunately, most of my countrymen are satisfied with cheap laughs and most of the good stuff gets canceled. Yay...

'Yank'= southern U.S.A. derisive classification of someone from the north.
Is 'Limey' the accepted, inoffensive label for non-POME's to apply to people from Old Blighty? |

Yes, Limey is pretty inoffensive to Brits as I believe 'Yank' is, as a general term for Americans. I don't know what a POME is |

As far as Limey humour goes I think Gervaise is the cat's ass. |
