Hi everyone,

I am looking to head over to teach in August, but I am unsure of which recruiter is best for public schools (just GEPIK and EPIK, not SMOE). I was leaning toward Footprints, but it scares me that they list EPIK jobs in specific 'desirable' locations (i.e. Busan and Jeju). I was always under the impression that they have no control over where you are placed and you find out when you get there. In essence, I feel that this is misleading, which doesn't give me the warm-fuzzies. They don't have any GEPIK jobs posted, so I'm not sure if they even work with GEPIK.

Has anyone had any good experiences with public school recruiters?

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Kristen

Hi - I can see how that would be confusing, but that's not what we mean by that.

We list those areas because those are areas that EPIK is hiring for, and those are areas where there are positions.

With the EPIK program, you are asked to list preferred destinations in order of preference when you apply. So let's just say you pick Busan, Daegu and Jeju Island. If you are a qualified teacher and get your documents in order as soon as possible, with a little luck you could land in your top choice.

Now - say you get Busan, you don't know where exactly in Busan you would be until you arrive. That's what is meant when people say you don't know where you will be going. You don't get to pick the specific school or area of a city, but you do get to pick the cities you want to apply for.

Alistair from Korean Horizons is amazing, and he helps you throughout the year if you've got any problems--not just getting you placed. My paycheck didn't go through last week because of the change in administrative duties due to the new year, and he helped me get it sorted.

I was told about him through a friend who'd used him, and I must pass on the good advice.

Thank you for your responses.

Will - Thanks very much for clarifying that. That makes me feel a whole lot better. I'm probably not the only one who was confused, so I hope this clarifies it for others out there as well.

Just saw this thread. Are any of these recruiters better to go with to get to Jeju or Busan or somewhere similar? Also, if I go with a public school or EPIK or something, and the contract starts in August, when does the job end? Does it start at the end of a school vacation and therefore, practically, end a month early? Or are you stuck until pretty much the time you arrived?

There is a new list of recruiters who have retained or won PUBLIC SCHOOL RECRUITING contracts.
Not all companies recommended currently have a contract.
In March 2010, EPIK granted about 20 companies a contract and these are listed on their site.
GEPIK have not yet confirmed their list of recruiters on contract, but we are assuming it will be the same as the March intake.

I'll lose my mind if I have to start this damned process all over again.

I worked with B2Corea. They are really awesome. My job didn't go through, but that was because of my own indecisivness. I will definitely be working with them again next time around.
