You cannot do it thru the website, you have to go to your local branch. |

Or an ATM, using your KEB Foreign Remittance Account.
The guy who came before me used to do it online, but I never set that up. |

You can transfer money to an American (or any foreign) bank account through KEB's website. I've sent money to my American account every couple months for the past year and a half through their site. It's easy. You have to register your home bank's info at a KEB branch first, and then once you've done that you're good to go.
Once that's taken care of, log into your account and then click on "Global Wire-transfer" on the left hand side of the screen. Once the new screen opens there is an option for "remittance number" and when you click on that all the information for the foreign banks you've registered will pop up.
It's very easy. I've never had to go to a KEB branch since I opened my account in 2008. I do everything online- pay bills, send money home, check balances, etc.... |

go to your local KEB branch. you will need a korean speaker. or go to the itaewon KEB if you can as they all speak very good english.
ask them for internet banking. you choose a username and password. they set it up for you in the branch. once this is done you need to log into the internet banking and then create a 'digital certificate' this is a small file best put on a usb stick that when you wish to do stuff online you use to certify thats its you.
once internet banking is setup you then get the bank to setup your home bank account (this must be done in branch). for this you need;
IBAN number (call your bank back home to get it)
SWIFT number (as above)
i think you need passport/ARC too but i'm not 100%. i assume you would. def need the ARC
once this is done you can send money. KEB is all in english (good english too). you also need this little credit card sized card with lots of numbers on one side. it will be giving to you when you setup internet banking. its in a sealed packet for security. you need this everytime you send money.
when you finally send money, you need to click on remittance number for method and i always click on remmitance of foreign labourers income less than 1 year (as i'm on an E2)
hope thats helps. its a pain in the a, the first time. but once its going its easy to do and cheaper to send money home. it costs me 8000 won to send money home (regardless of amount usually) and then about 8 pound back in the uk
you should be able to get all that done in 1 visit to the branch if you come prepared. also, if you could get to city hall. exit 4 in the press center is a the foreigners center in korea. its not the name, but its something like that and its def exit 4 city hall station and inside the press center. they will do it all for you. |

KEB is great and foreigner friendly.
They can open an account for you on weekends and you can transfer money on weekends if you work full time during the week and dont live near a branch.
In order to do internet banking you'll need to set up the internet banking access during the week though. |
