Since we are on the subject of finger gestures- whats up with British people getting angry for someone throwing up the two-finger peace sign- is it wrong?

Depends on which way it was thrown. With palm out, it's 'ok'. With palm in, it means something quite different.

on the first leg of my flight from dublin to seoul (which stopped over in London) I shared the flight with Mary McAleese, the president of Ireland, I think it's cool that she flew aer lingus rather than going privately like most other heads of state would do.


Ryanair would have been much cheaper though
