Hi everyone,
just wondering if youre allowed to bring a bike with you on the subway here in Korea. I know back home youre allowed, but not sure about the rules here...
im not talking about the ones that fold up into a briefcase size box, im talking about a regular bike.
Im looking specifically at the #4 blue line to Oido
thanks for all the help |

yes. in fact recently they've been trying to encourage that sort of thing. I know on the #3 line they've installed tiny little ramps down the side of the stairways for your bike wheels, and the last or first car has a bicycle holding area. so I'd suggest taking your bike to the last or the first car.
Other than that, you're a foreigner, nobody is going to stop you. Just hit the handicapped access gate and haul your bike in. |

The line I take to work, line 3, designates the rear car as the "bike car" There are no seats, and there are pictures of bikes on the walls. These trains are the brand new ones.
That being said, during rush hour the train is packed, and while it may be legal to bring a bike on the train, it would be nearly impossible to do so (and it would piss everyone off.) If your train is not packed, though, just bring your bike to the rear car and you should have no problem. |

found the answer for those who care:
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2010/01/117_50261.html
summary: theyre testing it out, so you can bring your bike only on sundays onto the subway. 1st and last car have bike racks instead of those elderly chairs. In April, they hope to expand it to sundays.... and eventually weekdays except for during rush hour. They say you can do this for subway lines 1-8 |
