Hi all!

My husband and I are wanting to learn to sail next year, so we have been trying to find a used sailboat, and have failed miserably on our internet search. Our Korean is weak (only been here a year and working on that as well this year! : P ), so we couldnt really search any of the korean auction sites. Anyone have suggestions or know a rough cost of an old used sailboat? We'd be happy with something from the 70's or 80's and around 28 feet. Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a Busan based sailing club for ex-pats on Facebook, called "Korea Sailing". They also have a website, http://www.busansailing.com/. They could probably point you in the right direction.

you may want to start with a smaller dingy sailboat, say a JY, 420, or hobie cat. It helps to build skill with the larger boats (they are quite an investment). Large boats = money pits.

Before you even consider buying a boat, look into slips (the place at the dock where you park it).

I've had several sailboats. One was a 25 ft Catalina. I kept it in Harbor Island in San Diego--the slip fee was $400 a month, which is a big investment for something that you will probably only use once or twice a month. And remember, that's just to park the thing. You also have to maintain the boat, which is also very expensive.

There are several sailboat clubs on the Han River. If I were you, I would join a club and use their boats for a while. If you find that you really do like to sail, then you can invest in you own boat (if you can get a slip).

Anyone who has bought a boat knows this saying, "Two of the happiest days in a man's life are the day he buys a boat and the day he sells it."

Have fun!!!

Does anyone belong to the sailing club on the Han over by Nanjido?

about 6 years ago I rocked down there and asked about hiring a Laser. No one seemed to know whether it was OK or not. Finally, one guy said 30,000won for 4 hours so I hired one and had a great time.

I would like to do the same thing again but I thought I would check here to see if anyone had done it more recently.

Can I still hire a laser at Nanjido or somewhere else on the han?

Thanks
