Yesterday, on my way to work I saw on the news that an American male, age and name withheld(and they even let him cover his head) who was arrested for selling stolen computers somewhere or other here in Korea. I know, those damn Americans, right?!(oh snap, I'm one of them too!!!) Any who, with all the negative about foreigners, it's no wonder most Koreans have a negative opinion of us here. Well, I am starting the Anti-Anti English spectrum right here and now. I know not all of are bad people, although there surely is a fair percentage of them here. That goes for most races even Koreans, although it seems they have a hard time admiting that. As I have stated in other blogs, I don't have a negative opinion of Korea for the most part, other wise how could I have been here for the better part of ten years? In simpler terms, I am sick and tired of stupid A-holes going out doing stupid things and making foreign people as a whole look bad here in Korea. So, here's what I'm proposing, If you read this message and think it makes sense, write a response stating something positive you have seen a foriegner or even yourself, if you're a foreigner, doing here in Korea. I will do my best to send these responses to newspaper offices in Korea and try to get a better light shed on us round eyes here. I know there's absolutely no gaurantee that anyone would publish them but it would at least let some of the people reading on this site know that what they're doing is appreciated. So, please do your best to contribute something here. Put it down in writing.
I'll start things off.
The other day I was walking in Bupyeong and saw an old man get hit by a car. I helped the man by clearing his airway and keeping him breathing until the ambulance got there. He is now doing much better, the doctors tell me and he is quite thankful.
I have one more, last week I saw two foreign girls on the subway helping an old woman up the stairs at bucheon station. Way to go girls!!!!
If you have something please post it. |

They are bs because they are on an online forum or because they are positive? |

I've seen a few usernames going through the buy/sell here that I'm sure were selling stolen stuff. I can't imagine how it seems some people seem to consistently be getting random TV/electronics/computers for sale and not put 2 and 2 together. |

Actually there are a few really bored guys out there who get off on buying up stuff and trying to sell it at a profit. Gives their empty lives meaning. |

In the deep cold of winter a guy couldn't get his truck to start so I pulled out my jumper cables. His truck was so big and my car so tiny that we still couldn't start it, so his buddy and I pushed this fairly large truck about 100m so he could coast down a hill and pop the clutch. Success! He was very thankful and I was terribly out of breath. |

I like the idea, but anything you send to a newspaper won't do much because it's by definition anecdotal. If you want to fight the anti-foreigner wave, try using statistics or something that shows a group of foreigners, like foreign charities. That's my suggestion anyway. |

Yes, you could compile a booklet of photos of foreigners volunteering. I know they do a lot of work for Animal Rescue Korea, as well as some orphanages around town. |

Bad news sells more than good news!
Unfortunate, but true. |

Ahhh, the internet...where cynics and trolls (and the increasingly popular new model cyni-troll) vehemently prey upon anything resembling sincere and positive intent.
You're all so much cooler now..
Anyway,
It's true that these shouldn't get any media attention, being totally anonymous, but who cares.
1. Every year in a city down south (Jeonju) a group of NETs get together and deliver toys to orphanages.
A large portion of the NET community there also hosts several charity events annually from which the proceeds go to three youths whose parents died several years ago. |

Every time I see a post of this nature (anything having to do with the AES) written this poorly I immediately assume it's a Korean looking for a response. I admit that I don't see what a Korean would have to gain from this post, but it still smells a little funny. |

Hey guys I'm back. I saw at least one good story and got a good idea too, for all the naysayers who have nothing better to do than instil your negativity, please do so elsewhere. If you are foreign yourselves you should think that your negativity is why all of us get the bad reputation that most of us so SO do not deserve. I am trying to make the situation better here. For the most part people are generally good but as one of you said, bad news sells more. In light of that statement I would just like to say, please if you're going to do something wrong, intentionally or unintentionally, please think twice and remember that you are a representative of your home country whether you think so or not. When a student sees the things you do as you carry out your daily they think honestly, "hmm...that must be what all foreigners are like". I know, I am married to a Korean, the narrowmindedness of their education is unbelievable, but what can you expect from a country that has been so closed off to the rest of the world until the early twentieth century. Please respect the fact that they will take whatever you do as the truth about foreigners and go and tell their little friends like"hey guys, guess what my foreign teacher eats bread and pizza everyday" then his friends reply," You didn't know? all foreigners eat is pizza, bread and hamburgers." bad stigma, I know but it's the simple facts of life in Korea, probably the same in other countries where there are little or no foreigners staying there permanently.
In closing, please watch what you do on the streets, in your school/hagwan and even in the night club. Those freaky anti English spectrum folks could be watching you when you least expect it. Please don't be the next one on the news getting busted for selling stolen goods, growing marijuana, or the worst of it all molesting your students. The last thing there is one dear to my heart, I have a two year old daughter and if anyone ever did anything to her here they don't have to worry about the legal system or even showing up on the news they need to worry about what I'm going to do to them. But, that's another story. Have a nice day.
P.s. the name is a reference to beavis and butthead. Used to be a big fan of theirs, (you know sitting at home doing drugs, eating bread, burgers, pizza and drinking till I passed out while watching them) just kidding bout the last things. |

Warren pease,
It's not poorly written at all, I know that there will be some Koreans reading this and apparently you didn't take the time to read it yourself. That's why it looks so simple, those who are non natives can understand. I said in there that I'm American. SecondlyIt's not AES, its AAES. Get it right butthead. |

Hey Daemyan,
Do you have any pics or video footage that I could send in to a news station? that would be great. I can speak Korean well enough to try and get a segment on it even if for only a few minutes. Thanks for the support. |
