If a girl has bad breath, just hand her some gum, don't say anything. You can do this if her breath is fine, too.
Anyway, its not really a big deal for me, but its somewhat of an issue here in China. Just tell the person they have bad breath with a smile on your face. I'm sure my breath is less than stellar at times, but the Happy Warrior has learned to carry around gum for his own sake and the sake of others.
Is it such a big deal? No, not at all, really. |

I'm not a scientist, but I do have a theory about this. I believe it's not just a matter of what you had to eat for lunch that day, but more about what you've had for lunch every single day of your life. In other words, it's a sign that something is not right, either with the persons diet, or with their body's ability to eliminate toxins from the body, probably both.
I would also bet that animal products, like meat and dairy, are more to blame for chronic and severe halitosis than plants, like kimchi. But again, a lot also depends on each persons body chemistry, age, and lifestyle. |

I do agree and I believe there is evidence that supports that a person's general state of health can be reflected in their smell/breath. What evidence supports the hypothesis that meat or dairy would cause halitosis? |

Animal products, in general, are harder for the body to digest, process, and eliminate properly, than plants are. If something that goes into the body doesn't come out, that means it's still in there, putrefying.
No evidence. Just my theory. |

| Oh, I thought plants were more difficult to digest as a result of the cellulose walls. That is why most known herbivores have longer digestive tracks or, in the case of cows, multiple stomachs. Of course, ease of digestion isn't necessarily related to health. |

Not eating breakfast makes your breath foul too, even if you brush your teeth. I worked with a guy once whose breath was so bad I would literally hold my breath when he was speaking to me. It got the point where I felt I had to tell him one day, and he said he knew, but he rarely had an appetite in the morning and that was the reason. But I mean geez, at least try to force down an apple or a muesli bar or something.
Coffee and cigarette breath is nasty too, but that's one I'm sometimes guilty of |

Don't brush your tongue--use a tongue scraper. It's way more effective, and you can find them cheaply.
Floss every night before bed, and throughout the day if you've got the time. Brush and rinse after every meal. Listerine usually comes with one or two service bottles for travel. Just refill them and keep at work or in your bag.
I've never had bad breath unless I've just eaten garlic or had a coffee, but it's probably because I brush, floss, and rinse religiously. |
