Yes, you heard right. I am officially out on the streets. No keys on my keychain. Start a new job on Monday, but they don't pay rent. I'll be staying at my friend's place until then, but the last week has been very stressful. I even spent 2 nights at a kebab guy's place in Itaewon.
I'm right behind that crazy screaming old guy in Itaewon. It's amazing how we are all so close to being homeless.
I have 38,250 won left. |

| I think the first thing I'd do if I were homeless would be to start thinking of body weight in the same way the homeful think of money. Homeless is one thing, but skinny homeless is all sorts of dangerous. Come to think of it, I should start saving up some rainy day fat pads right now, while the resources are still available. |

| I was homeless once in Cairns Australia so I went to a farm and picked Avocados for two weeks. The guy who ran the backpackers would charge extra for rooms and transportation to the farms for anyone who showed up there broke. He would give us pep talks at night about how life was tough and it was our fault for not saving our money and he was charging us extra to teach us a lesson. He would try to fight anyone who gave him lip and his local police buddy would come in and put the guy who fought him in jail. It was as close to being like the deep of America as you could find in Australia. |

I hate that attitude, and I think you're right-- it is pretty prevalent among Americans (speaking as an American who's lived in a few different regions and spent time in every other part of the contiguous states). My theory's always been that people like to blame or outright punish victims because convincing yourself that bad things mostly happen to people who screw up makes the world seem more fair. It's a similar mentality to the self-defeating attitude, where people sabotage their relationships or performances (like on tests) so they can preserve their pride by subconsciously knowing that they didn't really fail because they failed on purpose and nobody rejected their best efforts. Giving victims the benefit of the doubt necessitates accepting that anyone, including yourself, could become the victim of circumstances. Thus, most people believe they're fundamentally different from the homeless, cancer patients, prisoners, etc., as did most of the members of those categories before they became members of those categories. |

I think this bloke is having you on, and aggressiveness like yours just feeds him even more. I don't take him seriously, but he provides a few cheap laughs and some good humour is an otherwise humourless message board so I usually read his posts.
For the record, I think most of us potentially homeless. One year contracts, many people with minimal savings, no jobs to go home to after leaving the Korean teat......I equate the parents' basement/attic as homeless and alas, I'll be shacking up with the parents for a couple of months myself when the year is over. Sobering thoughts. |
