Here's the situation, I am leaving Korea next weekend. I did not finish my contract (only 5 months), but I agreed to leave. They have not yet reported me no longer working to immigration, so I can find another school. Instead, I am going to leave Korea.

I do not wish to contact them anymore and I do not owe them anything. Can I just hand in my ARC card at immigration at the airport before my flight out of Korea, or will they see that the ARC card still has 7 months and keep me?

I heard about exit orders, but that is just if I want to come back to Korea to work before the ARC card expires. Is that correct?

Or, do I need an exit order in this case regardless. I will most likely NOT be working in Korea ever again, just visit as a tourist.

Just pack and leave. Turn in your ARC at passport control on your way out of Korea. Let them know that you are no longer working so they don't try to give it back.

If you have a re-entry permit or multi-entry permit and don't plan to return till after it expires, just hang on to it as a keepsake.

You don't need a reason to turn it in.
You don't need to explain why you are leaving.
You don't need an exit permit.
They won't stop you or keep you unless there is some other criminal investigation going on that you are involved in.

Have a nice life and return if/when it suits you either as a tourist or for work.

You should turn in your ARC card. I understand if you try to come back, it will be harder. Not that I plan to, but there is no point in keeping it.

Thanks to Tom for his help over the years and anyone else reading this.

I am not leaving because I didn't enjoy my time, I just need to move on. You have all been great and I will be on the China boards here.
