My wife and I are teachers in Canada and we taught in Korea from 2004-2006 (with one year with SMOE). We are getting a little homesick and we want to come back to Korea during our summer vacation to work in summer camps (July/August).

Has anyone done this or know anything about summer camps? Is it possible to do this? Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I've done a few camps. You'd need them to get you a short term visa, I can't remember the name of it, C4?

Most camps run from the 3rd or 4th week of July into August. There are 3 and 4 week camps. Some of them give you a place to stay, some don't. It all depends.

If they give you airfare, expect the compensation to be low. Most compensation is around 800,000 to 1mil a week. Usually lower than 1mil a week though, it depends how much you work.

The camps will start to advertise pretty soon. I think I signed up in April or May last year for the camp I did.

IMO they don't sponsor visas much as there are tons of F2 visa holders or E2 visa holders who can get permission in country. Good luck though.

IMO there are heaps of camps that will sponsor your C4 visa.

In fact, a lot of camps PREFER hiring from out of country, because the personalities and motivations of those teachers seem to be a little.... different from those teachers already in Korea.

Quite of the few reputable companies will pay for your airfare upfront, but if you take that option, expect your salary to be around 400,000won a week. Airfares from my country were sometimes over 2 million last camp season - so it seemed a good option for me to take.

Be careful though. I've worked a LOT of camps, and it's never happened to me personally, but I've heard horror stories of people not getting paid at the end of the camp.
