|
|
I've been torrenting a few things lately... not a terribly heavy load, just one or two things a day, and only about 6 files total so far. Tonight I started one up and all of a sudden had a warning pop-up from the Korean national police agency and the korean communications standards commission.
This was the site: http://warning.or.kr/
Anyone know what the deal is with this or had it happen before? I don't know enough Korean to decipher exactly what this warning is saying.
Is this something to be concerned about, and, if so, is there anyway to avoid triggering whatever alarms I managed to set off in the future? |

I dare you to ring one of the numbers on the page and demand an explanation. |

I've never got that warning for torrents. It's popped up on certain web sites but never for that. I got it on a legit site like the New Yorker or something (I can't remember now). Stupid govt bureaucrats can go to hell. |

Cassimira, I got the exact same message about 30 minutes ago while downloading torrents from btjunkie.org. I only dled 5. I'm also curious as to whether it's something I should be concerned about at all. Anyone? |

This warning must be triggered by certain keywords entered into the search bar or address bar. It does seem random though because I saw it when I was browsing for PC games reviews. |

I got that message when I visited dictionary.com while at work.
I showed my boss because I thought it was funny.
She said, "You need to be careful what websites you visit."
I said, "It's dictionary.com!"
She said, "I know, but you just need to be careful."
I said, "what?" "Didn't you hear me?" ..."It's dictionary.com. I'm looking up the definition of a word."
She said, "This is Korea." "It's different."
....Finally, I just agreed that, yes, I need to be careful what sites I visit.
She couldn't wrap her head around the fact that the message popped up in error. |

Whoa, now I'm even more confused. torrents, gambling, and... dictionaries are illegal?? That seems... weird. I'm glad to hear that's it pretty common to see it... that makes me worry a little less. Still, anyone have any idea what exactly triggers it, and if its just a warning, or is it actually tracked somehow? |

My guess is that the sites contain ads to the banned sites, however there are some strange blocked ones |

I don't quite understand. If you're using a torrent program (e.g. utorrent) then how can there be a popup (which is normally started by the web browser)?
If you were using the browser with the torrent program running in the background, is there a chance that the popup was started by something different you were looking at?
It would be very spooky if the government could trigger my browser to display a message based on software I was running (or traffic patterns). |

I wanted to look at a nice porn site, but my browser kept redirecting me to Yahoo Korea. It's an outrage, I tells ya! |

For whatever reason, whenever I do a Google image search for something work related and non-erotic, sooner or later I get to hi-res hard core pron pictures... |
