Its much cooler to have to sing this song in the summer when being outside doesn't freeze so much. |

You've been here 3 years and all you have to show for it is about US $35?!? Sounds like a case of idiocy and tough [Mod Edit]! You're in the bed you made and are whining about it. No sympathy here! |
Who's whining? And correction, I've been here more than five years, Internet toughie guy. |
PM me, we can arrange to meet and I'll tell you the same in person. I'll be happy to meet you. |
Will you buy me drinks? |

Yes, you heard right. I am officially out on the streets. No keys on my keychain. Start a new job on Monday, but they don't pay rent. I'll be staying at my friend's place until then, but the last week has been very stressful. I even spent 2 nights at a kebab guy's place in Itaewon.

Ying, Just do the best that you can. Get some ban chan (inexpensive stuff) at the shijang and ask your friend if s/he will loan you enough to get a bag of rice. Work a week, then ask your boss for an advance. If all else fails, contact me and I'll help you get to your next payday. Take care. |
You don't have to do that, but I appreciate the offer. I'm a big boy. Sorry I only responded to that offer now...
Maybe, if you want, when caniff gets back, we'll buy you a drink. A few of us are going to get together... |

Oh, come on. Everyone knows that Big Macs are the staple food of Hobotown. |
McDonald's Lunch special. A Big Mac meal for 3000 is pretty good. |
I was shocked and amazed on my second day here seeing how cheap a combo at lunch time is. |

| I had to wait 10 hours for money once and I was down to $1.80 and I was stuck at Chung-yang-hee railway station so I got to watch the window girls and smoke from 10 pm to 8 am. |

i was homeless during parts of my time studying in Australia so just slept in my office. i lived in my office for about 2 months at a stretch.
when i finally got told i couldn't live in my office, i slept out in the field during the day and worked all night.
it was weird, but i saved a lot on rent. kept my pillow and blanket in the bottom drawer of my filing cabinet and showered at the school gym. |

I had a friend crash at mine for a bit in between his contracts. It was arranged in advance, as his new apartment wouldn't be ready when he had to leave his old one.
It's common in Korea. I don't see the big deal. It's a shame about the lack of funds, though. I'm sure the OP's friends would be happy to help him out, foodwise. It's karma |

just curious,
would it be inconsiderate to wonder how after being here since 94, the OP has 39K won to his name?
which proves the point
that real life stories are always better than fiction. |

Think he said 5 years, but even that had me wondering a big huge WTF?
I don't get that either. But some good guesses would be:
- married and the wife cleaned him out of everything but 39k
- he invested everything into the stock market and 2008 cleaned him out, plus he had to pay back money he borrowed to play the stock market.
- he lives pay check to pay check and got screwed out of his last pay+bonus
It sucks being homeless though, that's why saving for a rainy day is always good |

38K to your name?
How can that be after 5 years in Korea working full time?
Oh wait...you do change jobs more often than you change underwear so that would put a dent in your earnings.
Good luck with the latest episode Ying. |

| Not that I like to agree with someone like Homer, but how the hell can you only have that much money after living in Korea for so long? On another post, didn't you say that you've been here since 2003? Seriously, what the heck do you spend money on? Even changing jobs, you should have some dosh in the bank. I can never understand the spending habits of some people. I've known others like you that have been broke, but they partied too much during the year and that's why they had zilch in the bank. But to be in Korea for so long and to have such a meager amount if pretty mind-boggling. You are either trolling or you are very, very bad at saving money. Which is it? |

| for what it's worth. I was homeless in the States in '06-'07, bouncing between my tiny car and friends' sofas and occasionally staying in hostels. Hang in there. |

There's always the benches outside Seoul Station- I've seen a couple of foreigners crash there.
Besides, how could a foriegner be homeless in Korea with all the work there is here? |
