Watch for specials, they come up on occasion.
I left a bunch in Standard Chartered for a year
ending last October. The rate was 7.3%
I wasn't aware that they take 15% of your earnings when you withdraw.
I believe their current rate is around 5% for one year accounts.

There are specific regional banks that have higher interest rate. Gyeonggi-do's is around 6.5-6.6% for the year. Incheon's is supposedly higher. I'll see if I can dig up a website for you.

Is the deposit guaranteed up to a certain amount by the Korean government as in the US? Just curious.

Are you also looking for a job that pays really well but doesn't require you to actually work? I'm in the market for that.

If anyone finds either scenario, either the OP's or mine, please let me know. I'd prefer you send a private message so every lazy SOB out there doesn't snap it up.

In the meantime, I'll sit on my Nong-Hyup fund that is currently paying 30%. Very Happy

So finding a korean bank with high returns is your idea of hard WORK ??? Mine is not. I currently get 4-5% interest and I am only interested in finding if there are other banks with better offers. If you cant provide any useful information, keep your mouth shut.

I guess what he asked for was a risk free/very low risk deposit where the interest is fair or not low. Most of us are probably stuck with an account with unreasonable low interest so it's a fair question to ask how to get a more competitive interest rate. Most of us interpreted it this way, while you seem to have interpreted it as a question of how to get rich fast and easy.
