Hi There,

So- I've just arrivied in Seoul. Last time I was here, I had an apartment with internet provided by an employer, so I just plugged in and off I went. This time, we've got the apartment, courtesy of my wife's employer (my wife came 2 months ahead of me) but have to provide our own internet. No hassles, I thought...

Here's the thing- my wife got internet set up by the estate agent, and I can't figure it out at all. (And frankly, asking my wife is bad for our marriage as well as being unproductive.) We have- a little grey black box, plugged into the wall. Box is labeled KT. Upon installation, she (my wife) was also given a username and password, but does not know where she was meant to enter it- the tech who came over set it up on her computer without her seeing how.

When I plug MY computer into the little box, it doesn't recognise it, and refuses to connect to anything. I know, I'm coming across as an ignoramus here- all I have is the box plugged into the wall, a password and username, and a bill (27,740) in Korean. The only characters I recognise on the bill are "KT," "qook" and "lite only." They're letters that I recognise, but they don't mean a lot to me in this context.

If anyone uses KT internet, has a similar system, and can offer any thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

Best,
Justin

KT has ENGLISH service during regular business hours. dial "100" and wait for the menu to say "English"

They can walk you through it.

Try releasing the ip. While your wife's computer is connected, hit win+r, type 'cmd,' then 'ipconfig /release all.' Disconnect the computer from the modem, then plug the router, or your computer in.

Thanks guys-

I managed by releasing the IP, as pangit suggested. But I've mentioned the problem to others, and nobody knew the KT number, though many had other problems with their KT service- so I've circulated the numbers, and I thank you on behalf of several.

Peace,
justin
