Hi,

I'm living in Seoul but I really want to get away somewhere this weekend.

Can anybody recommend some nice places in the south of Korea, easily reachable by bus/train?

I've done a lot of the typically tourist places in Korea, but apart from Busan, I haven't really been to the very south. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Rich

Gyeongju has great history - can easily consume a weekend. It's a short bus ride north of Busan, probably a direct bus from Seoul. But, of course, bring an umbrella...

Take the ferry to Tuschima for a night. Get a hotel room at the ferry terminal and then ride the bus for a few hours until its time to go back to the room to watch Japanese TV for one night.

Sounds intriguing...could you tell me more, or offer some links?

I've been to Gyeongju, and I will go again in a few weeks when the cherry blossom is out. I've also been to Beopjusa, Seoraksan and Danyang...please tell me more about Jikjisa and Maisan?

Thanks again!

Hi - Get to the ferry terminal in the early morning and get a ticket to Tushima for about W110,000 round trip and there are hotels by the docks. The hotels W50,000. Inflate prices by 10 percent to be safe. You get there at like noon and ferry returns that afternoon. Its where you go for a tourist visa run. The Japanese want you to fill out the address card, use one of the hotels on the travel brochures but don't stay there. The trip takes 90 minutes one way and I think they might lock you in the boat each way. You take a catamaran.

The Koreans move on to thier own hotels but the locals would be happy to have you. The ferry port is at a small town but you can take a city bus to other hotels that are more expensive and I'm not certain where the buses go but there are maps and I thought I could go around the island in 4 - 5 hours. The island can be nice in the summer. I saw a blog about someone that kayak'd around the island and they had some nice pictures of beaches. There might be less people in the summer than in Korea.

The K's go sportfishing there but I'm not certain where. They were decked out, they had lots of fishing gear and medium strength rods and waders.

Jikjisa is near Gimcheon, in the north west of Gyeongsangbukdo.

The tulips & cherry blossum at Namhae in Gyeongsangnamdo is another spot I have my eye on:
