It's really starting to hit me when I think about the terrible mess that the teacher that will be replacing me is going to face immediately upon arrival at this position. So many things are just a disaster through and through and sadly I don't think there is much of a chance that any of it will improve. I hope I'm wrong.....

...not at all.I think its fair to say I'm leaving the place in better condition than I found it.

The teacher replacing me will be lucky. They'll have a nice desk and computer in a nice english room with nice co-workers, with a nice new classroom with nice obedient and attentive students...in a nice laid-back and welcoming atosphere. With nice new books, syllabus and facilities.

But I get the feeling my school will get landed with some whiny FOB punk who appreciates nothing and ruins the good situation I've worked hard to build up.

You replacement doesn't have to stand in class, nor does he/she need to stay awake. Sounds like the person who replaces you will have an awesome 'job'.

Yeah this person doesn't have to worry about those things. At least at this job all the kids get to go home. Hopefully their parents don't starve them like the other boarding school I worked at.
It was really moronic to see that some actually defended the school for not properly feeding the chilckren that went there.
Some people are just sick and demented like that.

What I wonder about is....why some (many?) new teachers don't ask to speak with the current teachers there. Yeah I know the boss can insist that the current teacher lie but at least contact them just to get somewhat of a sense of what is going on. The one that is replacing me is coming on a Saturday afternoon and will be expected to be ready to teach come Monday morning. I hope their jet lag isn't too bad.

I leave jobs with no emotional connection as they could easily succeed or fail like the dalk-galbi restaurant that becomes a sushi restaurant overnight.

Yeah I hear ya on that....maybe it's just because I know a woman is replacing me that I get more concerned.

Sometimes doing a runner pays off for the next person. FT before me did a runner so they're treating me well. I guess they're afraid that I'd do the same if I'm not happy.

yes that can happen that way...i thought they would be cool with me seeing that the last teacher only worked 6 months and then left - not a runner though. looks like i'll be doing the same.

yes its really nice to have the teacher replacing you meet with you before you start the new job. When I got here I was placed in a love motel and did not know what was going on. The former teacher was nice enough to take me out with his wife for a beer and talk to me about the job. Because of this the job started well, then um . . .yeah.

I wanted to do the same to the new foreigner replacing me, but the school made it a mission to not have me meet him as they moved the apt, I had to move to my new province early, etc. Well, sometimes its best not to know too much . . .

my previous schools, yes. but this school i'm currently at, definitely not! i feel myself becoming a bit protective of this school; i hate the thought of them getting some jackass NET next year.

i'd like to meet my replacement when i leave, but i'm not sure if that will be possible. however, i will definitely write a reference-type letter for this school just so the new NET knows how great this place is and how lucky they are.

Way back when I wrote the replacing teacher a "my condolences" letter and left it in the desk he'd be getting. Poor SOB who got that job.
