I am new to the Hongdae/Sinchon area, and am seeking out good restaurants there!
So far, the best restaurant we have tried is Jenny's Cafe, the italian place in Hongdae.
Does anyone have a favorite restaurant in Hongdae (plus directions to it hopefully) to reccommend? |

Dos Tacos. Pretty good Mexican, at least for Korea. A little overpriced, but then again, every Mexican place is just as overpriced here.
Okay, directions, I'll try:
Come out of exit 5, turn to your left, (kind of towards Dunkin Donuts) head straight for about half a block, turn right and walk for about a block. Take a left at the first major-kind of street. You should see a bank to your left, next to that(on the same street) is some sort of steak house, on the other side of the street is a Ho bar. Walk about half a block. It's going to be on your right, there is a raised walkway, it's up there, next to subway.

| Loving hut in sinchon. Korean veggie fare (at changuk prices). It's between Beans and Berries and Starbucks, on the other side of the overpass from Yonsei. |

DiVino - Italian Restaurant

Good Italian food, owned and operated by an Italian dude from Naples. Pasta dishes and pizzas are around (or a little under) 15k won at dinner. It'd be perfect if he had a real wood-fired oven (like Sortino's in Itaewon) for the pizzas. |

| I like GreekJoy. Mr. Jeon is the coolest guy and the food is tasty. Right at the Hongdae park. |

Bulia, authentic Chinese hotpot. Hongdae st. exit 1, make an immediate right turn down the side street. There are two places directly across from each other. Can't miss the smell.
No English menus, but it's fairly straightforward. Just order the "jung-shik" for however many people you have with you.
Awesome, awesome fare. |

greekjoy is the best. also my favorite.excellent food. its above hobar next to the park. hobar 2?
mexican food here is awful. taco bell quality at casa bonita prices. probably casa bonita quality as well. |

There once was a time where Pancho's in Itaewon was the closest thing to decent Mexican food in this country. The advent of Chili Chili, Choi's and Dos Tacos, followed by a slew of newer choices, has been cause to rejoice among those of us who lived without anything remotely resembling Mexican food for so long. After going without, you're happy for anything. If you'd told me I'd be thrilled about eating at subway when I lived in Manhattan ten years ago, I'd have called you crazy. Nonetheless, that's exactly the case. On The Border may be American mall fare, but it's OK by me! That's goes for Dos Tacos as well, although the original Gangnam branch was and is better. |

That's fine. And I am certainly just as glad that Dos Tacos and On the Border are around--I frequent them both. I just got the impression the posters above me believed that On The Border and Dos Tacos are like the real thing.
I met the owner of the Dos Tacos (now 3-store) chain and he said the main obstacle he faces in bringing an authentic Mexican experience to Korea is Kustoms. He can't import specific chiles and spices. He's Korean but he lived in LA for almost a decade so he certainly cares about the food and knows something about it. |
