looks like it's going to be a gorgeous weekend, and am keen to do some hiking. threw a dart at a map, and started reading about Chiaksan--

i figure i'd take an early Saturday afternoon train/bus to Wonju from Seoul, sleep either near the mountain or at a gLove Motel in Wonju and hit the trail early on Sunday morning, and take a late evening bus/train back to Seoul from Wonju that same day.

Is this doable? Will I have enough time to summit, make it down and back to Wonju? Has anybody done something similar? Or better yet, are there better options (that aren't Bukhansan)?

as always, any input appreciated....

cheers,
tehdee.

Yes doable. The hike to the top, across, then back to the bus that took me to Wonju took about half a day. I slept in Wonju the night before. Not sure about conditions now though, there might be some snow kicking around making things harder than when I did it in summer.

I can see Chiak from my apartment and I can tell you that there is snow on the mountain. Tomorrow should be warm but then it will just turn muddy. I'd wait about a month until you can get a good day.

FYI, I say that Chiak is a b---h. I mean, it's a toughie. Koreans love to go straight up and down their mountains. I've done it three times - once at each end and once in the middle - and every time I think, "why am I doing this?" Razz
