now and then these 500 ml cans of beer will pop up in e-mart at ridiculous prices. i mean 1400-1600 won. cheaper than getting a cass at the 7-11.
they have weird names. Neptun, Von Raven, 5,0 and are not quite up to the quality of beck's or something, but they're so cheap and they sell out REALLY fast. i saw them yesterday and took home 24. an ajumma saw me going nuts and grabbed a few herself after asking me which ones were good, haha.
i'll be going again today after work.
meanwhile, my homeplus doesnt even stock tesco lager anymore....it's no longer my beer stop.
anyway, it's always a good idea to keep an eye open whenever you visit emart. |

Cass is horrible. This stuff isn't, and it's cheaper than Cass. That was my point! One of them is even a hefeweizen. |

I did see those awhile back and bought a few of each. Not bad for the price, but if I recall ALL of them were 5% or less alcohol. I haven't seen them since that one occasion
But..they continue to stock the Oettinger and I love that stuff. 2,200 for a delicious 8.9% brew that looks great in a glass! |

They range from 4.7-5.3, which again isn't Cass Red, but it's higher than most Korean beer.
That 8.9% oettinger is a good deal, gets you drunk fast, don't really like the taste so much though. at least the hangovers aren't as bad as cass red haha.
I think this beer sells out INSTANTLY. I actually think it's priced a little too low. I'm not even sure there will be any left when I go back. |

Oettinger is quite good.
I've gotten the Tesco brand at Homplus for 900won a can, before. It's only 20 times better than Korean beer. Which isn't saying much. Black Beer Stout is my weapon of choice these days. I live too far from E-mart to go more than once a week. |

Funny you should mention the Tesco brand. My store had been selling it recently at lower prices than usual, apparently to clear it out, because when I was there yesterday they had rolled out a new version. It comes in the same type of generic can, but with a purple tint to it, and now it says "Strong Lager". I tried just one can last night and I could not really tell if there was much difference or not. It seemed a little better, but that may have been my imagination. I still have one can of the old stuff and plan to do a taste test tonight. It's not the best beer in the world but it's not a bad value for the price.
Also, thanks for the Emart info! |

Good thread. It's always good when someone posts about sales or deals. BTW, in case you haven't been here for a World Cup, there will be some good deals on beer coming up around World Cup time. Keep your eyes open. |

Good thread! I was beginning to think it was a re-run of "Dumb and Dumber"! |

Speaking of E-mart beers, my friend got me in to some Bavarian beer that you can find at E-mart. It's about 5,000 won for a bottle. Can't remember the name but really good stuff. |

Ok just pulled out a can of the original Tesco beer and I don't know how I missed noticing this last night. The original was 500ml(tall boy) and 4% alcohol. The new one is only 440ml but a whopping 7.9% alcohol. Strangely enough, there is not that much of a difference in taste-maybe slightly fuller.
By the way, speaking of deals, my Homeplus is still selling Guinness as cheaply as Costco, and they are throwing in a Guinness espresso cup to boot. I have 8 now still in the box that I plan to give as gifts. |
