Ok, so my girlfriend and are going through what you might consider a rough patch and are considering taking a break. Seeing as we still have 8 months left on our contract, it might be a little more than difficult to simply tough it out for the interim. We also realize that if possible, it would be nice to work things out ultimately. We are considering that I move out temporarily and then make some decisions from there...
So my questions would be:
What sort of cheap temporary (1-2 month) living options would I have here in Daegu? What prices?
If ultimately we decide to continue separately, how hard would it be to attain an apartment, and for what prices?
Interestingly, while we live and work together, our contracts each specifically state that they will provide a non-shared single person apartment. I would hate to have to resort to that, as it would cause great tension at work with the director, but if it comes down to it, what chance would I have to push for it? We may have some leeway because the apartment of the only other foreigner at our hakwon costs at least double our shared apartment (his is in a nice area, ours is sort of run down). Also they are wanting us to extend our contracts for a few months until next March, so maybe we can hold that as a bargaining chip. |

Where do you live in Daegu. I know of a place near city hall. A friend stayed there monthly for 230,000. Nothing special though.
If it's close to where you want to be, let me know and I'll jot down the name of it tomorrow. |

sure that would be great. What amenities does this place have? I'm not looking for much but I at least need a fridge. A kitchenette would be amazing and helpful.
Also, will I have to negotiate with them on the price. Like will they start somewhere ridiculous (like the nightly rate x30)? |

They charged my friend 230,000per month. He's pretty smooth, but couldn't slide them down on the rate.
As I said, the room isn't much. Only a double bed, wardrobe, compact fridge, TV, and the usual toiletries. There is a sauna there and they have a small cafeteria where you can get free rice every day. That's it.
Do you want me to get the name? |

Yeah if you could get me the name of it, that would be great. It's not called White Castle is it?
230K sounds pretty sweet, although I could really go for a kitchenette. |

Where in Daegu are you?
A bunch of EPIK teachers just landed in Daegu. No unmarried couples housing this year, so there are quite a few couples with two apartments, some living in one and storing stuff in the other.
Ask around man, if you can befriend someone and prove you're not a psycho who would trash the place, someone might be able to help you out. |

That sounds great! Now to just find someone from EPIK. A new Dave's post coming soon! |

The name is Dae Young Yeo Gwan. ( 대 영 여 관 )
Owner's phone: 010 - 8217 - 2385 (no English)
Directions. Starting at the downtown Bell Park (GukJae Bosang GongWon), on the corner with the bell.
Cross the street to wards the KT Building, and keep walking north. Walk past the street that City Hall is on. Just befre you get to the next MAIN intersection, there is a smaller street. Turn left down there. I believe there is a triangular 'parkette' there with a capuccino shop There are a few places that may rent monthly around there, but I know this one does for sure.

This is Korea. You do know you're allowed to hit her, don't you?
Seriously though k230 for an OK goshiwon near a city centre is a pretty good deal. |

Made the rounds today. Many complete turndowns, but even more confusion, really. I thought I had a place near Daegu Station in the bag for 300k, but I double checked with the woman and she meant 30k per night despite several minutes of trying to explain I wanted a month initially... Another place nearby was 500k, although I'm afraid that could have been a miscommunication as well... I did manage to find a place near the one mentioned for 350k, including internet. Not wonderful, but manageable I suppose...
I feel a bit defeated all in all. Any other ideas for temp housing? |

Wow. Prices have risen a lot in a year and a half. What was the price at the one I referred to you?
edit: my apologies for mis-stating the price. I just rechecked my post. I MEANT to say 320. Not 230. Very sorry about that. |

Yeah I checked it out and it was 300, but no internet. One down the street wasn't so fantastic, but was 350 with internet. It's still an option. That area is definitely a bit shady, but that's what you get with love motels... |
