Ok...I have one day in Rome. I arrive in the evening on a Wednesday and will be departing Friday morning. Can anyone advise me on where to stay in Rome? What area to stay in? We want to walk to the sights (if possible) and we need to be close to the central train station to get to the sights. If you've been or you are from there...any advice would be appreciated! Thanks |

I would recommend staying at the Beehive. Its a hostel but also has private rooms. Super clean, great staff, and they have a little cafe. Its just a few blocks from Termini Station, so super convenient. There is a metro stop and bus terminal right outside of Termini so it would be super easy to just hop on a bus or take the metro anywhere in the city. Its been a few years since I was there, but feel free let me know if you have any other questions. |

Get over to the Trevi Fountain and then it is a short walk up north to the Coliseum and the Roman Forum area. You get to check out a bit of the architecture doing this to. Good way to see what some of the locals are up to. Then make your way north over the river to the Vatican and pretty sweet Castle that is just south of the Pope Kingdom. Line up and head into St. Peter's before heading back out into the square where you can post up at a little cafe and suck back espressos while watching people heading about on their business. |

If you haven't already gone to Rome- there is an open-top tour bus company operating there. That may be worthwhile to help save you some time getting to all the major sites.
Apparently 18 Euros:

If you haven't used one of the company's open-top buses...they're nice/convenient. Though, of the 3 cities I visited with them (London, Paris, Rome), I visited all in the middle of university, when I knew very little about traveling/planning for travel, so I'm not entirely certain how I'd rate then now against independent transportation. I think fairly highly though...at least as a resource to use first then supplement with (time permitting). [/url] |
