At first I was really disappointed with it when it was announced, but then I kind of started getting interested. I may buy one later, but there are a couple of things holding me back right now. The first is that it doesn't have any Korean input support. You can't type in Korean. I don't know why they removed the Korean keyboard since it's present in the iPhone and iPod Touch, but it isn't there. Because of this, my Korean girlfriend and her kids wouldn't be able to use the device at all. The other reason is that I want to see how the HP Slate turns out, first. That device looks really promising.

Not a chance. I already have a light and thin laptop which has more functionality and power than the i-pad.

Why would I spend $600 on something that does less than my laptop?

ah........styling and brand association.........they're the only reasons to buy something which is essentially a large PMP.

The way I see the future of the Ipad (and similar devices) is as a all in one streaming device. You will offload all the processing work to your main hog and stream it to the tablet. In the future this could even work over 3G or WiMax or what ever. Just my 2cents.

I agree with eamo. Plus this is a dealbreaker imo...

Fair enough.......but then you could just see your laptop as a PMP, but with a whole lot more options.

At least if it had a USB I could wait until someone hacked it and put a decent mod on to allow using an external keyboard or HD.

As it is now, it sucks. I'd rather wait till all the fanboys buy it and apple makes what real users want: functionality.

Yeah, I've thought baout that, but I like the form of this as well. A laptop is not great for reading the paper on the train - I htink this will be better.

The i-pad has an external keyboard option.

I guess it really depends on what you'd use it for.

E-book reader on the go? Probably a very good device.

E-book reader while lying on the sofa? Way too heavy to hold with one hand for a long period of time.

Media player? I'm sure the display is perfectly adequate, but converting videos is a drawback.

Portable Web browser? Probably an excellent device for that. If you're connected to 3G. Wi-fi coverage in Seoul is still too spotty in my experience to rely on exclusively.

MP3 player? Uh, yeah, I'm not going to lug that thing around to listen to music on. About as ridiculous as that Korean ad showing the girl using her netbook to listen to mp3's on the go.

Personally, I'm giving the iPad a pass. My netbook + iPod Touch combo do everthing I need them to do.

What does look pretty interesting, however, is Microsoft's Courier. Have to wait and see how that pans out.

Ipad is not a computer. It should not be compared to a netbook or laptop.

It is an appliance.

If you think about the Ipad as an appliance, then it is pretty useful for the functions it was designed for. If you think about it as a computer then you will be very disappointed.
