So I feel really bad about what happened.

I was teaching 2 afterschool classes. One was 1st grade and the other was 3rd. In my 1st grade class, a student was misbehaving so I put him in the corner for about 5 minutes. In the next class, with about 15 minutes left of class, the student came back into the classroom and handed me a big bag of chicken right in front of all the students. His mother waved to me. I figured she was just giving me chicken as a gift to me for the students bad behavior. We only had 15 minutes left of class and I was staying till 5:10 and wanted to catch the bus as soon as possible. The kids were like "wow", so I decided to hide the chicken in the other room till class was over.

Looking back, I think maybe she had an older child in my level 2 class also. I'm now wondering, do you think she intended the fried chicken out to be for the whole class? She could have just put the chicken in the office with the secretary, why else would she hand the big bag of chicken to me in front of the other students? The thing is, she didn't include any napkins or plates. Just a big bag of chicken, but it seems like it was enough chicken to give to a whole class (about 16 pieces).

If it was for the whole class, I wouldn't have wanted them to eat it. It's messy stuff and I didn't want to spend 20 minutes cleaning it up after school. I feel kinda embarrassed though if it was for the whole class.

So, do you think it was for me or the whole class?

Share it with the other teachers. Your school has a "no food in the class room policy", right?

I hid it in my bag and brought it home. If I was thinking, I would have brought it into the office but kinda forgot about it till I got home. We don't have a no food policy, but I was trying to teach a hard lesson and with 15 minutes left in class, spicy fried chicken would have been a disaster (especially with no plates or napkins)

But the question remains....did she intend the chicken to be for the whole class?

If you feel really guilty. Bring the kids a treat next time - Choco pies or whatever.

I think you should try to find out the mother's true intention.

Had she wanted you to share with the class, I would think she would have arrived with paper plates, mul tissues, Coke, etc. Perhaps she forgot. Then again, had she meant for the chicken to be only for you, wouldn't she have given it to you right after the class had ended? Perhaps the chicken couldn't stick around that long. She might have expected you to share with the Korean teachers. Her son might even ask a Korean teacher whether or not he/she enjoyed the chicken Mom sent. Embarassed

Given the circumstances - I don't think you did anything wrong at all. Just don't let our defeathered friend go unappreciated.

This sounds like a plot for an episode of Seinfeld.

You're reading to much into this. It isn't an international incident. It's you getting a free feed.

Eat. Wipe grease off mouth. Burp. Carry on.

yes it does.... like the one where George tries to piece together what happened to the briefcase he left the tape recorder in at his deceased fiance's family business.....

oddly enough, that also is solved simply by asking the people involved what happened.... go figure....

I think she intended for you to eat the chicken in front of the entire class and make it a part of your lesson some how with chicken spittle flying out and into the eyes of the salivating little ones.

When you said 'bag of chicken' my first thought was, "A live chicken?!"

Don't think to much. It's dangerous. Look at me....

I need to go back to bed....
