What's Ansan like? Does it have a genuine urban feel? Or is it just kind of on the large side of mid-sized (i.e. no real character)?

Hi there, I've just moved to Ansan myself. It is a more middle-class city than the Bundang part of Seongnam-si where I used to live. A bit grittier, not quite as tony......at least that's my take on three weeks living here.

I would say it is more working class than anything else. It has it's charms but it isn't the be and end all.

very working class. One of largest concentrations of factories in all of Korea.

but good ethnic restaurants (SE Asian) around Ansan station and the area around new town/city center isn't bad.

I liked Ansan, with the exception of my coteacher from Hell... now the hot but mouthy science teacher I could handle...

anyway, Ansan has a few good bars and lurhibang joints... decent movie theaters too.... just make sure youre near one of the subway stations...

a temp young male K coteach last year told me that they say "the water is very good in Ansan", which supposedly is a Korean metaphor for the girls being hot. (water's good)

I don't know personally but the area around Jungang station looks happening. That's where I'd like to live.
