Hi,

I'm sure that this has been addressed in previous threads, but I know how quickly this information changes so I thought I'd just ask.

I've just returned from a 4 month trip in SE Asia and was hoping to get back to Seoul and quickly find a job. Recruiters have called me but asked if I have all the documents necessary, including a criminal record check. This is the one document I do not have.

When I was in Canada, I was able to obtain this document very quickly at my local police station, they were great about it and I got it in about half an hour. I asked my parents to go in but they refused to do it for them, saying I had to do it in person.

As far as I can tell, the other option is to do this from the Embassy in Seoul, by mail and fingerprints, and on the RCMP website they state that there is a current 120 day waiting period due to how cumbersome this process is.

Can anyone confirm this to be true, or suggest any other way for me to quickly obtain a criminal record check without having to return home?

Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated...

T

You can do that and wait months for the RCMP check. Or you can order from Korea through the Winnipeg Police Services and you dont need fingerprints. It takes about 10 days to receive in Korea if you have WPS sent it to a friend in Canada who, in turn, express posts it to Korea for you. Forms can be found on the WPS website and any Canadian is eligible to get CRC from them.

Ok, that sounds a lot better. And this is the fastest way that anyone knows of?

If you have a C/C yes. Send it EMS and have it returned to your parents/friends address in Canada. Have them Priority Post it to you here.

Take it to the Canadian Embassy, swear your affidavit and it is all done.

Not cheap but there is nothing faster.

Thanks for the advice. I've sent off the applications. I'm a bit disappointed with the variability from municipality to municipality in Canada. Residents of Guelph can have a family member go and pick up a background check for them, while the OPP requires it to be sent here to Korea then done through the consulate...

Let us know what happened because this sounds so much better than getting one directly from the RCMP. Especially since their website seems to be down at the moment which makes it hard to get the correct information!
