Anyone else noticed it?
I feel like I'm seeing more older foreigners around (and by old I mean middle aged ). I'm in Ilsan, so pretty much all the waygookins here are English teachers. This has only been in the past couple weeks, since the new semester. Maybe more older folks are making the leap given the situation back home. It used to be almost all 20-somethings or married to Koreans. The older folks I see are often couples (both foreign). |

that's a drumstick you're holding, not a wing.
Anyways, sorry for being born in the 80's. |

Except for noticing this OP...what else did you hope for with this thread and what relevance does the age of foreigners have?
Just curious. |

It's one thing to be old... it's a whole other transgression to be old and unavailable. After all, that's what new NETs are for, right? |

To the best of my knowledge, there was a bit more of a stigma in years past toward anyone who wasn't young, white, and pretty.
According to the few hagwon owners and teachers I've spoken with, that has slowly started to change. Surprisingly, several of them attributed part of the change to the AES, pushing for better quality teachers and less emphasis on immaterial features like appearance.
I know. Wild. |

Nope. Live in Incheon, a few, but most people are fairly young. |

strikes me as a sure sign that the Koreans have gotten serious about bringing in better teachers.
but the young still rule the roost. I wouldn't mind some hot thirty something Western women, when they're at their sexual peak |

Your post does sound like someone in their twenties--their early twenties--which means your frontal lobes still haven't fully developed. Good luck with that one, kid. |

I'd be sorry if I was born in the 80s. The thought of inheriting a world destroyed by pollution and greed would really get me down. |

People stay. They age. And they continue to stay. Continue to age. The number of older foreigners is going to increase as time goes on.
Korea's also got a new race emerging... the half-white half-korean kids. I know quite a few guys who've gotten married to Korean women, and have no plans to return to either Canada or Korea (mostly because their wife doesn't want to...). Many of them are poppin out kids, left right and center. Korea is slowly becoming multi-racial believe it or not.
The vets: For some, staying in Korea is a great option. You develop a network of friends, dig in your roots, have family, get good work... it becomes home. And those people were once the "young eager newbies" but now they're seasoned professionals. I say good on them.
The newbies: Korea can be a great place to live for the young and old! And all the older foreigners I've met have been pretty cool... not your boring "never leave my home country" types. Again, good on them for trying something new and being young & adventurous. |

Good to hear. I'm in my 30s and looking to move to Korea. A lot of the posts here lead me to believe "you might as well be dead if you are over 30" if you're looking to move there. Good to hear there is more demand for qualified teachers, too (which I am, thanks very much).
I'm glad I wasn't born in the 80s -- I actually got to live through the 80s, which was an awesome decade to be alive/aware. |

Read the question at the beginning of my post. I was interested to see if anyone has seen a increase in older folks the past few weeks. |
