Mine, at this time, would be to buy 2 condos, near the beach, in southern Thailand. To rent these condos out and reside in northern Thailand, where it is much cheaper.
This all sounded so "doable" until I researched it more. The condos would probably only get rented out during high season, and only if the world economy was ok.
Buying a condo in Thailand does not come with many guarantees. Anythijng could happen as it is not the West.
It is not the ideal situation that I hoped it would be. If I could buy a few now and actually live off the rent, well then I could retire |

I thought I read somewhere that chefs have among the unhealthiest occupations. Still, that doesn't doom you to a life of obesity. You could burn it off battering peoples' kidneys in the Octagon. |

| My ideal is to have investments that throw off a mil won a week in residual income, and own the family homestead in the deep dark south of NZ. That way I will have a solid base, and can do pretty much what ever takes my fancy. |

I'm greedy. I don't want to live in one place. I want to live in twelve, each with a mansion and a 'pleasure team' like Kim Jong-Il has.
January: Bali.
February: Thailand.
March: Caribbean.
April: Mexico.
May: Korea.
June: USA.
July: Alberta.
August: Newfoundland.
September: Denmark.
October: Germany.
November: Italy.
December: Turkey.
Keeping in mind I haven't been to some of these places. 
But because I'm a nice guy, I'll fly a few Dave's posters to my location for weekly parties (but not to join the pleasure team, sorry). |

*cough cough* where the air is worse than Bangkok and worse than Seoul, equaling much of China, Chiang Mai and area has astronomical lung cancer and heart attack rates. your retirement would be a short one. pine box here you'd come.

I lived in a very comfortable bungalow on the beach in Southern Thailand. A friend had to return home for several months and rented it to me for a measly $150 a month. The place was palatial, with satellite, large screen TV, a huge kitchen, fully furnished, 4 bedrooms, a large deck, air con in the bedrooms, ceiling fans in the kitchen, family room, and lots of space and privacy. My closest neighbors were 500 meters away, and the King of Thailand had a vacation palace just over the hill. Comfort like you wouldn't believe, listening to the lapping waves in the morning and the sound of birds, geckos, and insects at dawn and dusk. Truly idyllic. Funny thing was that it became so ordinary after 6 months. Now I miss it like crazy of course.

After university, I trained as a French chef and worked in restaurants. I still love cooking, but cooking in busy restaurants is not as glamorous as the Food Network might lead you to believe. That said, being a great cook is still a driving ambition of mine--minus the fame and fortune. I just love good cooking, flavors, and the endless possibilities of alchemy. |

You really don't know do you?
There is SO MUCH information on the bad air in Northern Thailand it isn't funny. Domestic burning fills the valleys plus from Indfonesia and other places to boot. It's worse than the yellow dust storms of Eastern Asia.
If I must I'll take ten minutes to link a ton of websites about it. But must I? Wake up. |

| To have a well-paying job that sends me all over the place. Back in Shanghai I knew a couple of guys with these sorts of jobs, awesome expat packages with all expenses paid, huge housing allowance (basically double what I was earning as my salary), they'd be off to HK or Tokyo or Thailand or wherever once or twice a month it seemed, they'd go out and fine dine at least once a week, get slaughtered at all the pricey expat bars, and yeah I don't need to go on. Those gigs are much harder to come by since the global downturn when companies started trimming the fat, but back then, whew...nice work if you can get it. |

I will research it, but I have spent time in northern Thailand, in Udonthani and really liked it there. They had a lot of expats living in that area, and at that time, the air was much better than bangkok. The condos were much cheaper than in bangkok or down south. Perhaps it is because of the pollution? have you lived in northern Thailand?
Anyway, I will look into it further.
P.S. Remind me never to drink a beer with you, I don;t think it would be much of an amiable time - but maybe I shouldn't be judging you. I just think the statement "wake up" is counterproductive on this board and quite hostile. |

two butt-nekkid hot lingerie models, one on my left and the other on my right, all of us laying on my tempurpedic bed. one chick is feeding me caviar sushi rolls the other one is giving me a massage, and i'm playing a ps3 game while viewing my 75 inch flatscreen tv.
