What about the fact that Korean tastes seem to be vastly different from Westerners' and probably those of every other country in the world?

I was reading one of the food blogs (Seoul Eats, maybe?) that reviewed a bakery in Gangnam. The owner/operator had to alter the breads he had spent years learning to craft in Germany because Koreans prefer a processed white over a beautiful artisinal loaf of proper baeumbrot. He's supposed to be doing well now, but was tanking before the changes.

It's not an Asian thing either. The Japanese, in my opinion, have the best bakers/bakeries in the world! Hong Kong/Macau aren't slouches either, although I suppose their baked goods are geared closer towards the pastry side of things.

PB, Tous le Jours, and all those corn-topped, cream-filled "bread" factories irritate me to no end. They shouldn't be called bakeries. Although I do admit I enjoy their creampuffs and the occassional cake.

So I guess my question is: are Koreans willing to "bastardize" their foods for our sake?

Like some other posters have mentioned, I think certain Korean foods would certainly do well abroad, but I'm talkin' a certain FEW.

I would love to have takkalbi in California. MMMMM meat. Hard to mess that up.

Oh you germfreaks are so silly.

Newsflash bacteria and germs are everywhere. No one cares that their beef burrito from Taco Bell is made by some minimum wage Heroin junkie who picks at his skin and then makes their food. And guess what? You don't die or get sick from his food. It's the Half-Gal of 5-0 that you drank before you made your border run that made you sick (or disinfected the food).

People have eaten food made with barehands up till 1990 and done fine. If anything is making us sick its the overuse of sanitizers (which breed more resistant bugs) and lack of exposure to germs.

After boiling and baking is what's out there to kill germs. That's what it does.

As for Korean food being top 5- No way it can ever top French, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Brazilian, Turkish, Indian, or Vietnamese. It might give Thai a run for its money. It's good food, maybe even fringe top-10 on its best days. But on any other day its a middle of the packer.
