This year flew by for me, but now that I have a week and a half left, its just staggering. We just opened a new afterschool program and they have me working 26 classes a week. And the thing is, its not repetitive. They're all using separate material and with 1st graders (mostly). I love them, but its exhausting. On top of that, I have to work 9 hours today (because of idiotic scheduling)
I'm just going to play bingo for the rest of my contract.
Anyone else feel like the end of their contract was the hardest? |

Yep. The end of a contract is always like that for me. It's like someone popped my ballon, and all the air flies out.
One contract I had the whole winter break deskwarming - before I could leave for sunnier climes (I just slept and used the internet).
Last contract, I just played games for the last 1 & 1/2 months of teaching. The school and I had a 'miscommunication' about my vacation - and so I'd resigned. Nothing like gaming to get you through that sort of stress. |

26 classes a week ? oh poor hockeyguy. Come take my schedule of 40 classes a week of 40 minute classes. |

Jeez, I hope you're getting paid double for that. I only have 10 weeks left but it looks like it's going to be an easy 10 weeks. I only have 16 classes a week and the way they've been scheduled means that my weekend begins at 11am on Friday morning....so no complaints. Having taught at the same school for 1 year and (almost 10 months) all my prep is done and the lessons have all been field-tested so I don't even have to worry about the execution - I turn up, teach and then leave.
I anticipate the most difficult thing about the last week or two to be the ever increasing realisation that I will probably never see any of these kids nor most of the teachers ever again........... |

OMG (insert your schedule here) I'm so much better (insert my schedule here).
(add sly comment to distract from original post to make me look cool).
(insert a half-butt comment to try to make it look like I care).
Now that that's out of the way lets talk.
I can only imagine that time gets more and more important as it gets closer to when you get out. My only advice is to think about other things and try to focus on the classes that made the time go by so fast.
I dont think there is anything that can make it fly by like the fist half, but if you remember what made life fun up until now the last few pieces will be a little less painful. Make the last week an impromptu party for you and the students who helped you have a good year. Hope that helps some.
Good luck and hope it all works out. |

It's the hardest because you are a lame duck and you know that the next week you will either be home or at the beach in SE Asia. THAT is why the last week seems to be drawn out...because the goodies are tantalizingly close. |

I just played games with my students my last week of work and had them ask me anything else they wanted to know about me. With one of my smartest classes, I played a game of Jeopardy with them. The questions (i switched the game up a little bit) came from stories and jokes we had throughout the year. That holds as one of my fondest memories! |

For serious? That is exactly what I did. Loved it. Both the students and I. |

Yep last week of work sucks. The last week of teaching is easy. I surf the net and they do their finals (like now). Next week is when I have to grade all these exams. It sucks. Anyone else hate grading as much as I do? |
