Ok this is the most rocking dude in Korea who may or may not be here after 6 months: depends on whether or not I get into grad school this year.
I want to start a club with the older folks to meet perhaps once or twice a month.
I think it's about time that I open up and start to socialize again.
I think it would be great if some of us older folk got together once in a while.
It's your opportunity to meet the baddest 42 year old in Korea. This is literal and figurative.
two drinks on me for anyone over 40 who can beat me in an arm wrestling contest.
Make that four.

why the age barriers? I'm assuming you don't want to deal with the loud drunken frat boy fools in their early twenties, but when I was that age, I defied the stereotype. |

I'm in. Actually, I tried to do something like this last year, but was limited by who I knew in the EPIK program. If you want, I can tell more people about it as well. I'm not on Dave's very much anymore, so I will PM you my email address.
Congrats on your teaching award as well. |

I'd be game, but instead of the age delineation I'd merely suggest you marketed it as something where you'll likely meet somewhat older folks.
This would tend to keep most of the "whaddya mean you don't want to go get ____ faced dude?????? party!!!! " types away.
or you could always lose your size/strength to ultimately throw them out on their asses if need be. I'd be happy to help
but I don't like defining anything on the basis of calendar age.
way too KOREAN for me, thank you.
(which reminds me, I don't see why anyone under 40 should beat you in arm wrestling as well, based on your size/background - I assume you still lift?)
is the chick in the avatar going to be in the club as well? if so I'm definitely in, I don't mind Eliot Spitzer's (and whomever else's) seconds in this particular case. |

Ok, I agre about the age thing. All are welcome but I'm really trying to target the older group.
I was a precocious 20 something as well. I never related to other 20 somethings when I was in my 20s.
Calicoe, I got your email, thanks. But I want to keep all communication on Dave's since there may be people reading this who may want to attend but who won't want to admit to it on Dave's.
I'm thinking we need at least 20 people committed since probably only five will show up.
It will be in Seoul. Someone who knows Seoul needs to come up with a venue.
I prefer a large place with pool tables, food, etc.
I will prepare some ice-breaker activities for the first meet until we are comfortable and then we can plan other activities events, etc... |

The only placeI know of with a pool table and food is Hollywoods.. but I am sure there are others.. oh what about the 2nd floor of 3A?
Alas I am not quite 35.. and I don't live in Seoul, otherwise I'd come and hang out, too
Oh and our lives are taking a similar path right now - I may or may not stay in Korea in 6 months depending on jobs and some other stuff. Grad school has already been applied for (PhD long distance programme) and I know I will get in without fail, but I need the $$$ to do it, which means I have to keep working. Hah! |

once again, a slight re-working of the language.
Target a more "mature" group (most of the time I think mature is a dirty and restrictive word, but I can't think of a better one in this instance)
or best yet, target it in terms of your planned activities.
if the activities don't/won't involve getting ______faced and or otherwise doing something very stupid, the people you want to avoid won't come |

Didn't you say you were leaving in 6 months anyways? You sure took your time trying to socialize. |

better late than never (for anyone)
I'm in a similar boat - I will probably stay for another year, since my hoped for other gig is seemingly on hold so I won't count on it in my planning)
I've been leading a fairly ascetic existence and have decided if I stay here another year, I won't allow myself to waste the year away socially, as I did last year. I don't think I'd have this problem if I were in Seoul but this year I'll bite the bullet and make the annoying trip into town. |

So give other 20-somethings a chance to talk to older folks...I'm 23 and a few of my good friends are in their 50s, no joke...some people are ahead of the curve, and I'm sure that many of those people go to teach ESL in Korea...after all, that is a pretty mature and independent thing to do compared to your modern college graduate who goes right into the workforce or is still smoking pot and playing video games.
Do the "yeah, let's get wasted, party!!!" people even last in Korea? Wouldn't they get fired when they come in to work still drunk or hungover, or don't come in at all, say inappropriate things to students/staff? |

I'm interested. I'm nearly 31 and it is always nice to meet some slightly more mature folk! Let us know the details ^_^ |
