We probably double the main handlers job, but your co-teachers get a pretty sweet deal.

You think it makes the handler's job that much harder? I can't really think of anything that mine does. I guess I don't make a lot of trouble, and never ask for anything. I remember before vacation the handler had me fill out a form showing my intended vacation days, but beyond that I can't think of a single thing.

So, just curious, what extra duties does the handler have? Should I be thanking her more?

When I did PS

I did either 100% or 0% for lesson planning. It was never together.

Teaching was about 80% to 100%

I loved the co-teachers who disciplined the kids. Made my life soooooooooooo much easier. I had one that just walked up and down the isles and hit disruptive students, so I could focus on teaching.

Making your schedule presumably, as well as quite a fair bit of paperwork...I'm unsure beyond that, though I know it's considered quite a bit of work as opposed to other positions (many of which I know actually *are* quite a bit of work). Maybe ask your manager?

In the classroom, I'm like the officer, and my co-teacher is the sergeant. I decide what to do and give the orders, and she makes sure it gets done. Very Happy

I'm hoping to work at Public School. How many classes will I have? And will I have my own classroom? I guess that all depends on the school, huh?

Maximum of 22 regular classes. If you are at an elementary school, you might have your own "English Zone" classroom, but I wouldn't count on it. It all depends on the school. Very Happy

As said, maximum 22/week. My high school has it's own English room, as does the nearby middle school. I don't know in general. We don't use our room much though. I prefer to just go to the student's classroom (in Korea, students stay in the same room all day - the teacher's rotate and come to the students). Otherwise, it takes quite a bit of time/hassle to get all the students to the special room, which is itself, quite inconveniently located.

Good chance most to all of the regular classrooms will be equipped with a ~42" LCD TV though...that's kind of nice.

My main co-teacher, "handler" as some call her, but I personally detest the word, often lesson plans with me, but her input is limited to the book and a few extensions of my ideas, which I appreciate. When she does put together a few ideas, they're unfortunately not logical, she lacks any understanding of how to introduce topics, how to have a class function chorally, in groups, and individually, how to comprehension check, or how to give examples by either using stronger students or the teachers to help the students "get it."

She's a really groovy person so I do everything I can to make sure she never loses face. My second coteacher does no lesson planning at all, but helps with the discipline, translation, and classroom organization. I do ask for her input, but she really doesn't have a clue how to teach English--which she quite honestly admitted.

KT Co-teaching - 60/40, 40/60...give or take.

Before the term, I did about 60-70% of the planning and about 80% of the classroom teaching

Now I do 95% of the planning and 95% of the teaching.

however, when I was "splitting" the planning with a more, um, "intense" teacher, she would complain about my activity ideas and try to micromanage me more. I'm fine taking on more work if I'm not going to have my plans assessed constantly. My philosophy: You don't like it, you plan it!

For 6th grade- My CT usually come sup with the lesson, I add in an idea or two and I teach it. So it's like 50% me, 50% her.

For 5th- My CT speaks 0 English. I do 100% of everything

For 3rd- My CT does a lot of translating and classroom management, but I do all the lessons and teaching, so 80/20?
