Looking to get into MTB ing and thus need my first real MTB. I have seen some good models and want to know what you think.
I have come across the Specialized Rock hopper and the Gary Fisher Tassajara. I've also seen the trek 6 series but they are wildly overpriced here in Korea.
I should mention that I would mostly be using this for pretty light trail riding, city rides and occasional weekend trips to the mountains.
oh and I was looking to spend around a grand....maybe a few hundred over a grand if the model is right.
Thanks for your help

You won't be able to get much of a bike for 1000won. |

A grand is entry level meaning heavy components, low end hydraulic disk brakes or maybe even noisy mechanical breaks, and a heavy, short travel front shock that might move around a bit when going over obstacles or when breaking hard on a steep descent.
If you're doing mainly pavement bashing, with light trail riding, either model you mentioned is OK, but Specialized are a big company so you know you should be getting a decent steed.
If you get more into trail riding, you'll be wanting to upgrade components and fork and make everything lighter. |
