Here is a poll I conducted back in 2006 regarding a friend of mine who had no reservations about calling Koreans yellow monkey. In fact, he made the headlines in Korean media. He was one of 2 subjects featured in a KBS documentary about English teachers. He's now in Vietnam. Good thing he left because he was very anti-Korean.

I'm reading that thread. I've called my students "circus animals" before, but only because they were currently acting like circus animals. This guy sounds like a very disturbed individual.

Here's an article written about him. They replaced "Yellow Monkey" with some other label in the article which made quite a headline back then. It was also all over Korean media at that time.

Who is they and whose back do "they" have.
When a man slaps another man, its because he thinks you are a little bitch, so I wouldnt be too proud of the fact that another man wanted to slap you.

I have had a similar situation at COEX mall last year. The Korean man followed around my Korean girlfriend and me. He yelled curse words and told her she was a *beep* for being with a foreigner.

So they said ... kind of like when Mr Kim the hagwon owner said he'd complain to the kids' parents about them calling you gaesheki.

They text messaged the case number to me and mentioned that he will be prosecuted. I have pretty good faith in the officer who handled it.

In regard to yellow monkeys, I was watching the new HBO WWII mini series The Pacific and one of the slurs the soldiers yell at the Japanese is "yellow monkey"

I've heard certain racial slurs against Koreans, but this whole monkey thing...not only have I not heard it, it doesn't make any sense.

I can't believe that you haven't heard the term, but I'll respond anyway

Back in the day when, sadly a lot, of white people in general believed they were superior because of their skin color Monkey was used to describe black people, as being nothing but Monkey's, i.e animals

Yellow Monkey is just a add on to include Asians instead of black people

I in no way tried to imply that only people from the Southern part of the States were rednecks . I've known a University Law Professor and heaps of white middle class University people from various countries who are for want of a better word rednecks, you could just change the term to racial biggot, developmentally challenged or ethnocentric etc. It's just that redneck is a good term to use for the socially inept morons that they are

well, it should be noted that despite "fighting", and this particular incident among others, Korea can't really get on the podium at the event called racism in the Olympics.

It's still an American medal sweep. Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Sure! If you were to sift through some of my much older posts, you'd see that I've had my fair share of positive experiences with females, and I too have gotten thumbs up in the past. Both of these young ladies are quite hot. I think if you ran into this guy, though, it wouldn't matter if you were with a monster that guys around the world would rate as a .5 on the ubiquitous scale of 10 as long as she was Korean.

clearly the guy WAS a victim of racial abuse when he was abroad while younger. That's the only logical explanation for acting like an effing idiot even in the front of the police. He's been mentally scarred.

an unfortunate byproduct of coming into contact with the American South or white trash anywhere. Rolling Eyes

If you're not being ironic, nonsense.

Almost every Korean I've met who has spent time overseas claims they've been the victim of racism. When they describe the incident it's usually nothing other than the Korean not getting some kind of special treatment. This is especially true for men.

-it overwhelmingly depends on the persons initial attitude.

The ones claiming "racism" are invariably the sort of negative and difficult people that are miserable everywhere they go anyway. I'm talking about the ones with a sense of entitlement, cultural superiority, anger issues, whatever. They all have a bad initial attitude and nothing is ever their fault. This goes for some westerners as well.

I've also met a few Koreans who claim to have had had positive experiences abroad. Surprise surprise they're also generally friendly and happy people.

djsmnc definitely seems to fall into category number two. The guy has a fondness for the humorous side of things, can be self-deprecating at times, handled the situation well, and has reacted with class to the situation and has maintained his sunny disposition.

I am not sure if the rolling eyes is showing that your comment is in jest or not.

I will assume that it is not and that you have no clue about any other place in the world or how Koreans think.

If I am wrong about the eyes, please forgive me.

it's meant as a gesture of sarcasm about my "USA USA USA" cheer.

I'm perfectly serious about the comment.

I've been around the world quite a bit and have encountered silly attitudes and racism aplenty, and yes I am aware of how Koreans think, at least how portrayed by this forum.

and my point is they still don't get any medals at the racism Olympics.
USA sweeps the medal count.

not institutionally mind you.

but when you consider basically most the "American South" combined with their inbred rural Midwestern cousins, combined with the inbred cousins who moved up North to occupy blue collar jobs in Rust Belt Cities
(and you can start adding some lunatic racist blacks, just catch them on the radio sometimes)

and you consider what you know they think and what they'll say in 'safe company" - well as I said.. Korean farmers, etc are still not true contenders
