So, I got my degrees in 96 and 99 respectively. I stocked up on transcripts in 2008 and they are still in sealed envelopes. So now the recruiter wants new ones. I haven't taken any new courses. So what is the big deal? |

Weird. I sent old ones in 2008, they were from 2005 or so. Did you tell them that they were old? |

How would they even know? Mine weren't dated. |

OP, as long as you have a stockpile of potentially unusable transcripts, you might as well open one up to find out if your school dates them. If they don't, just tell your recruiter the year or two old documents are your new documents.
As for the actual reasoning behind that rule, I have no idea, it makes no sense, but it certainly wouldn't be the first totally arbitrary rule ever upheld by a bureaucratic system. |

Evidently, the recruiter opened up the sealed transcript and looked at the date. She's got my docs because she's a friend of a friend and now she doesn't seem to be working on finding me a good job. One job that she had me interview for wanted me right away...on a tourist visa, and another clearly stated "no pension" in the job description. Perhaps I should be asking another friend to retrieve my docs! |

If the recruiter opened the transcripts, then THAT is why they want new ones. They should have given them to the immigration office UNOPENED.
Have you had an E2 before? If so, then take one of those "come on a tourist visa, we'll sent you to Japan on a visa run" offers. School provides the return airfare up front. That way you can check out the school and if they drag their feet or mess something up in the immigration process, then at least you are getting paid and you aren't bound to the school from day 1. If they mess with you, they know that there is nothing stopping you from leaving. |

I sent her some new transcripts and I had an interview last night. They haven't committed to hiring me yet. She said that they were hiring some other candidates. I'm getting tired of this process. Last year, when I didn't know any better, it was so much easier.
This year, I want to make sure that I'm not an hour or two from the nearest subway line. I'd like to be on the southern edge of Seoul, or one of the satellite cities. Suwon would be my first choice, but the southern end of the Bundang line is fine also.
I'm a young looking 45 y.o. blonde with hazel eyes and an hourglass figure...not skinny by any means, but not obese by any means. Just sorta average and curvy...Koreans and certain guys who comment about women on this board, probably think I'm an elephant...but it's not so bad that it should be affecting employability.
I have one year of experience at an average hagwon. It was in the middle of nowhere, I didn't like it much, but I stuck it out, honored my contract, learned a lot about myself and about teaching. I've had a nice break here in the U.S. and I'm ready to return.
Got any leads? Send me a PM. |
