Does anyone know a good place to get contact lenses for a astigmatism? I have a weird prescription.

Is there one particular chain of opticians that is really good?

Any is Songtan area or Seoul?

I found a couple optical places at the COEX mall that carried a toric lens in a strong prescription. Disposable lenses can get expensive here, so I'm considering to get LASIK/LASEK here before I leave.

I've also got astigmatism in one eye...a few places didn't have the right prescription because my eye shape was apparently unusual in korea (!)..lots of places can order for you though...it usually takes a few weeks to come in (I think they order from the states here)...ask at a few places...

Any of shop would be helpful. If you just write down these words on
the paper. 난시 means an astigmatism in Korean.

I have astigmatism. Currently, I'm wearing Coopervision Biofinity Toric. The best and most comfortable disposable lens I've ever worn.

Korea seems to be Acuvue crazy.

to advertise their stuffs. I don't think their stuffs quailities are good enough for their reputation in Kor Smile

I wear the same things. I've only been wearing contacts for a few years so I can't really compare much, but there are MUCH more comfortable than the last ones I had.

Wow...good news. I have been told my astigmatism is too bad for contacts, but it looks like these might work for me.

The PDF for the Biofinity Toric says:

Quote:
o Powers: -20.00 D to +20.0 D
o Cylinder: -0.25 D to -5.00 D
o Axis: 0 to 180

My prescription is has the following values: SPH, CYL, AXIS, and PD.

I'll have to go to the doctor to double check, but does anyone know if the SPH (my prescription) means 'Powers' as listed in the PDF? Any idea what PD is??

Yes, the meaning of power is the synonymity with a spherical.
And PD is the pupillary distance. It is the distance, in millimeters, between the centers of the pupils in your eyes, for example 62. This is further described as distance PD and near PD such as 63/60.

Are contacts less expensive in Korea? I'm currently using Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism. I'm wondering if I should buy a year's supply before I come, or just get some there.

Back home I'd always had to order a special brand because of my astigmatism, and difference in vision between my left and right eye.

Hadn't worn contacts for a while, and then went and got a pair at a shop here. They gave me a Korean brand, soft lenses, right off the shelf, cost me 50k for just one pair.

I thought, WTF this is way too expensive. Then they informed me that the contacts should last one year. Checked with my co-teacher and she assured me this was the case with her when she wore contacts.

Have I just been bamboozled all these years by the soft lenses that lasted a month each? Or are the Korean lenses significantly different?

Wearing them so far everything's been fine. They burn a bit here and there, but I think it's more from my sporadic usage and the current dry weather, than from any problems with the contacts themselves.

+1 These contacts are AWESOME. I hardly feel them, and it's not a big deal if I accidentally pass out in them.

I pick em up when I go home for my yearly visit. I don't mind paying more to get the best contacts I can...being able to see well is a pretty high priority for me.
