| I was going to say that a white-collar criminal being pardoned (or at least getting off, pretty much scot-free), is hardly unique to Korea, but to return to the head of Samsung...wow. |

| Corruption exists everywhere, but in Korea they don't even seem to feel a need to hide it. People here are so tolerant of it, presumably something to do with the Confucianist mindset. |

| what really sucks is that this guy will be able to take his wealth into the next life therefore buying up all the good summer homes in heaven so main street schmoes like me have to live next to like bus depots and needle exchange places. |

Don't forget that one reason for the prez issuing the pardon was so this crook could be on South Korea's Olympics committee. Like the Olympics need more bad press.  |

Call me a cynic, but I think that Korea should not be allowed to host any major international sporting event until they admit what they did to Roy Jones Jr in 1988. Plus the dubious 'victories' over the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese teams in the 2002 World Cup.

Please... not this again... Still mourning something that happened 8 years ago. If anything, that France v Ireland game, last year, should prove to you that bad calls are made all the time. And the Portuguese, Italians and Spanish do themselves no favors by diving all the time. If anything those 3 countries and the south americans should get oscars for all the acting they do.
I just remember that Brazilian faking a serious head injury when the ball hit him in the knees, the offending kicker got a red for that. |

I think it has more to do with Korea being an homogeneous society. |

Obviously some palms were greased....and to let him back in control...what idiots some koreans are.
You going to hire a paroled/pardoned bank robber to work in a bank? A paroled/pardoned child molester work with kids?
You can bet your life that if a pardoned foreigner...one who received a pardoned from his/her country...applied for a teaching job in korea and submitted a clean police report...gets approved by immigration....and down the line, someone surfing the WEB finds out about his/her past....immigration would deport them! But hey, this guy scammed millions in a tax fraud, jailed/pardoned and back at the helm! Unreal! |
