|
|
I've been to a few Jimjilbangs here but I've never seen cameras inside the men's locker room until last week. There were eight or so cameras facing between the lockers plus a couple of cameras in the main area. I didn't notice any cameras in the actual sauna but still found it extremely unusual. EDIT: Nude people were in view of the cameras, in case it wasn't obvious, from the description.
Is this even legal? Would they have these in the women's room too? Or were they just fake in order to discourage crime?
The jimjilbang in particular is Gongeoptap Sauna (공업탑사우나) in Ulsan. Yes, it's called sauna but it's got a jimjilbang. |

could be there has been a lot of theft there. I don't think having camera's there is normal. I wouldn't go back there. Ask some koreans what they think about it. |

A few months back after finishing a workout at my gym, I went back to the locker room to get a shower. I always check my wallet at the desk while working out, and pick it back up when I grab a towel before the shower.
Anyway, to make a long story short i went into my locker for something, placing my wallet on top of the lockers, and forgot it there while I stepped a few feet away into the shower room.
Anyway, after finishing I was missing (or so I thought) about 50,000 won from my wallet. There has always been a CCTV camera in the room...so i thought..ok..I'll just go up to the desk and have them review the tape.
Well, as I should have expected, the camera was not functioning..it is mainly just for show as a warning to potential thieves. I told them what happened, and wow they called the police before I could stop them.
Basically, the police came..took a look at the room, then came back to the desk to ask to see the video tape. When the older office (the veteran who walks with a swagger like Dirty Harry) heard there was no tape..he literally began berating the poor desk girl like an ugly step-child.
The way he reacted made me think twice about whether such places used fake cameras, because he seemed to have the expectation that there was going to be a "real" tape or record.
My point is..I do think it is legal to video tape changing room and other such places so long as there is some notice of CCTV (whether it is truly recording or just a fake plastic camera)
I later found the money in my jacket pocket at home |

But you'd certainly be in your right to boycott the place if they refuse to remove the cameras. I would. |

I'm not shy or anything but it's definitely weird to have CCTVs in the room. I guess my main question was regarding the legality of it. There were no signs (that I noticed) and it seems like something that would be sued over back home in Canada. Does anyone know of any pertaining laws? |

I'm pretty sure camera footage from the men's side isn't going anywhere. No one wants to see that.
On the women's side, thats a different story. |

^ Really?
I pity the fool who must sift through hours of naked ajumas eating boiled eggs and yelling at each other to find the one hot chick who changes quickly. |

Yes, does anyone know of any relevant laws about this (or where to search)? |
