So I'm basically asking if I could buy an iPhone here in the US or in Korea and get a plan (either with the phone or seperately) in Korea or other countries if I end up leaving Korea after 1 year. I'm not really sure how changing plans with an iPhone works, so any info and advice about it would be great.

Are you asking if you can buy an iphone in the US or Korea? Are you asking if you can buy a plan in US or Korea? Are you asking if you are going to leave Korea after 1 year? I'm going to assume you mean buy an iphone and use it anywhere in the world with a plan. Or maybe you are asking if you can take the phone to a different country and get it on a plan in that country.

Here's my answer to your questions.

yes
yes
I don't know.
yes (its called ROAMING)
short answer no. long answer yes, but if you are even asking that question, then chances are you do not have the technical know-how to even begin to understand the processes involved in getting your iphone to work in different countries. So, no.

Congrats on being a total douche. Also, you should probably learn how to read if you can't understand what I was saying.

Your question has already been answered a billion times. Use the search. A simple "Iphone" in the Technology forum search, which would take you at most 30 minutes of your time, would've answered all your questions.

Your welcome.

I guess I have the same concern. There seems to be some confusion about getting an iphone activated in Korea. I've heard that you can take an iPhone bought in the U.S and get it activated on a Korean carrier but you have to register some number with them first. But i'm wondering do you then get access to the normal iPhone rate plans or are you forced to get crappy plans that are pushed onto foreigners.

I guess i'll be finding this out sooner or later!

I just wish Apple would force carriers to make things more simpler but they're probably benefiting from having things locked down like Fort Knox.
