It's been brought up to me by two different posters now that since I am not a teacher I should get off this forum. So, simple question, are non-teachers persona non grata on Dave's ESL cafe? |

I need a definition of 'teacher' before I answer that question.
I also want to know who will be checking IDs (or contracts) before allowing anyone in to Dave's. |

I for one, appreciate the different perspectives, even if I don't agree with them. Besides, if the board can handle a civie( non teacher) like Seoultrader, we can handle having you around too. |

I don't mind different perspectives, especially on Korea.
I might be a bit chafed if someone was coing down on us in the Teaching forum but if you live in Korea (or have) then this is a forum for you. |

It's not the fact that you're not a teacher.
It's your attitude. |

The official response:
While the forums were set up with the intention of being a resource for those teaching (or seeking to teach) English in Korea, membership to these forums is not restricted in any way whatsoever with regard to age, sex, nationality, ethnicity, religion, occupation, political affiliation, shoe size, or taste in music.
This will not change regardless of the results of this or any other poll on the subject.
(But you knew that already, didn't you?) |

Please bear in mind that some of us who are not teachers are former teachers and have different perspectives which may possibly contribute to the lives of current teachers. |

That's it. You're on the list.
(I'm kidding of course... I know a great many otherwise sane people who also like Rush). |

No, stay. One notices that the Job Discussion Forum is considerably less active than the General and Off-topic forums these days anyway.
What I find best about this forum is that it is a collection of people who are all educated to degree level, and though that isn't necessarily a criteria for intelligence, it usually gives us a good strong starting block for discussions.
Individuals who have other careers will disappear after a while anyway if they don't find the discussions interesting and make interesting contributions as a result.
The only thing I would object to would be gloating, Narsty Dog used to do that, like "I'm no longer a teacher and now I'm a whole lot more wised up than you, therefore my opinion is more valid because I'm better off, hahaha." We know our career-line is sketchy, we don't need our noses rubbed in it. |

Please do me a favour. I don't know the 2 posters in question, because even though I pride myself on having a good attention span, having been born before the advent of MTV and MuchMusic, I don't read every post, so I am somewhat at fault her. So I ask you to carry the load in regards to my shortcoming.
Could you please, PLEASE tell the 2 posters in question to get into spitting contests,

I think those working in Korea regardless of where should be allowed to post.
I especially like reading about/from those who don't do hawgwon/schools but rather corporate or other types of work.
Let's face it reading about xxx hawgwon all the time is boring. |

*beep* that.
If the effeminates are posting praising Katydid, its an exercise for those of us who actually have an attention span.
